''Aleesha'' is a Konkani film released in 2004 in Goa, India. It was directed by Rajendra Talak and featured Priyanka Bidaye and Rajeev Hede in the lead roles. Synopsis The film is about a mine-owner family and its interaction with the residents of the mining belt of Goa. Rajendra Talak
Rajendra Talak is an Indian film director, from Goa. He is best known for his award-winning Konkani films, ''Aleesha'' and '' O Maria''. Early life Talak was born in Comba, Margao, Goa. He attended the Mahila Nutan and Popular High Schools in Margao and later joined Parvatibai Chowgule College, from which he graduated with a bachelor's of science. He was a state-ranked table tennis player, and represented his college in table tennis and badminton competitions. In the 1970s, Talak was a part of tabla player Sushant Keshav Naik's ''Mahesh Kumar & Party'' music group. The group merged into the ''Gomant Vidya Niketan Kala Vibha'', and staged award-winning dramas in Marathi. Talak's experience in drama and theatre, led him to a love for cinema. Lorna Cordeiro, (born 9 August 1944) also known as Lorna, is a Konkani singer from the coastal state of Goa, India, and is popularly known as the "Nightingale of Goa". Early and personal life Lorna was born in Bombay on 9 August 1944 to Cecelia and Theophilus Cordeiro who hailed from Saligao, Goa, she is the third of their six children. Her family belonged to the Goan Catholic community. Lorna's father encouraged his children in music and to speak Konkani at home; their immediate neighbour in Goa, recalls being very impressed by the family's singing of Konkani hymns. Lorna recalled how as a young girl another Parsi neighbour in Mumbai would clap and gift her four Indian annas whenever he heard her sing along with the radio. Konkani-language Films
Konkani () is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by the Konkani people, primarily in the Konkan region, along the western coast of India. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages mentioned in the Indian Constitution, and the official language of the Indian state of Goa. It is a minority language in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat & Damaon, Diu & Silvassa. Konkani is a member of the Southern Indo-Aryan language group. It retains elements of Vedic structures and shows similarities with both Western and Eastern Indo-Aryan languages. The first Konkani inscription is dated 1187 A.D. Nirmon
''Nirmon'' is a Goan Konkani film produced in 1966. It was directed by A. Salam and produced by Frank Fernand. The film features C. Alvares, Shalini, Anthony D’Sa, Ophelia, Souza Ferrao, Antonette and Jacinto Vaz. Cast and crew Nirmonn was Frank Fernand's second production. It had story and direction of A. Salam and music by Frank Fernand himself, dialogues by C. Alvares, screenplay and editing by R. V. Shirkhande. The film stars Shalini Mardolkar, C. Alvares, Anthony D'Sa, Jacint Vaz, Antonette Mendes, Ophelia, Jack Souza Ferrao and J. P. Souzalin. Inspiration Nirmonn is based on Lord Tennyson's character from the 1864 poem ''Enoch Arden''. The 52nd National Film Awards, presented by Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in the year 2004. Damodar Mauzo (born 1 August 1944) is a Goan short story writer, novelist, critic and script writer in Konkani. He was awarded the 57th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour, in 2021, Sahitya Akademi Award in 1983 for his novel ''Karmelin'' and the Vimala V. Prashanti Talpankar
Prashanti Talpankar is a writer, translator, playwright and actor, hailing from the coastal state of Goa, India. She is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award for Translation. She currently serves as an associate professor at Dnyanprassark Mandal's college and Research Centre, Assagao.
