Albion Hotel, Balmain
The Albion Hotel is a former public house, pub in the suburb of Balmain, New South Wales, Balmain, in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. It is currently operated as a trattoria, café and private residence. History The pub was built in 1860 on the corner of Darling and Ann Streets to cater for workers from nearby Mort Bay. In 1876, the building became a grocery, perhaps due to the competition of the nearby and larger Pacific Hotel (Sydney), Pacific Hotel and London Hotel (Sydney), London Hotel. Its licence was transferred to the Unity Hall Hotel, then on the corner of Nicholson and Darling Streets East Balmain, now Oddfellows Hall, until 1910, when it lapsed. In 2000, it became a trattoria and café, currently called Ciao Thyme. A pub (short for public house) is a kind of drinking establishment which is licensed to serve alcoholic drinks for consumption on the premises. Balmain is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Balmain is located west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Inner West Council. It is located on the Balmain peninsula surrounded by Port Jackson, adjacent to the suburbs of Rozelle to the south-west, Birchgrove to the north-west, and Balmain East to the east. The Inner West of Sydney is an area directly west of the Sydney central business district, New South Wales, Australia. The suburbs that make up the Inner West are predominantly located along the southern shore of Port Jackson (Parramatta River), stretching south to the shores of the Cooks River. A ''trattoria'' (plural: ''trattorie'') is an Italian-style eating establishment that is generally much less formal than a '' ristorante'', but more formal than an '' osteria''. A ''trattoria'' rooted in tradition may typically provide no printed menu, casual service, wine sold by the decanter rather than the bottle, and low prices, with an emphasis on a steady clientele rather than on ''haute cuisine''. London Hotel (Sydney)
The London Hotel is a hotel located on Stirling Terrace overlooking Princess Royal Harbour in Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The current building was built in 1909 for the sum of £7,000. The building was designed by architect J. Herbert Eales. The proprietor was Harry C. Sims, with work completed by contractor A. Thompson. It was built on the site of the Chusan Hotel which had stood on the site since 1849 and was rebuilt in 1871. When it was constructed the two storey brick built hotel was plastered and surrounded by large spacious balconies. The entrance hall was reminiscent of an English mansion; a by drawing room opened onto the balcony, as did the dining room of similar proportions. The public bars were located on the ground floor. Sims remained the proprietor of the hotel until 1918. In 1930 the hotel was put up for auction and was sold to E. S. Cowan, a local resident, for £7500.
