Albino, Italy
Albino ( Bergamasque: ) is a ''comune'' in the province of Bergamo, in Lombardy, northern Italy. It is located northeast of Bergamo and is situated in the valley of the river Serio (''Val Seriana''). The comune is included in the perimeter of the Alpine Convention international treaty. History Archaeological findings have showed that the area was already settled in the Copper Age. In Roman times there were settlements in the area (probably of Gaulish origin), though the first document mentioning a ''in vico Albines'' dates from 892 AD. Later, entangled in the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines, the town was strongly fortified, a castle being built in the 14th century. Later it was under the Republic of Venice, with a strong increasing of textile and iron industry, peculiarities which still characterize Albino today. Enea Salmeggia
Enea Salmeggia (c. 1556 – 23 February 1626) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period, active mainly in his native city of Bergamo. Biography He was also known as ''Il Talpino''. He trained with members of the Campi family, and later with members of the Procaccini family in Milan. For the church of the Passion in Milan, he painted a ''Christ’s Agony in the Garden'' and a ''Flagellation''. His ''Virgin and child with saints Roch and others'' is found in the Brera Gallery. An ''Adoration of the Magi'' (1595) was painted for Santa Maria Maggiore, Bergamo. He painted a ''Deposition'' for San Leonardo de’ Padri Somaschi. Gazzaniga (Bergamasque: or ) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy, located about northeast of Milan and northeast of Bergamo. Andrea Fantoni
Andrea Fantoni (1659–1734) was an Italian sculptor and woodcarver of the late- Baroque period, active in the region near Bergamo. He was born in Rovetta in 1659, and he died in Bergamo in 1734. He trained with his family of artisans as well as the noted wood carver Pietro Ramus (1639–1682), and then traveled to Parma to work in the Palazzo Ducale. He returned to Rovetta in 1679. His studio produced a variety of works, including statues, reliefs, and wood carving. He is best known for his wooden confessional from the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, Bergamo, and the Duomo of St. Alessandro in Brescia, as well as the pulpit in the Basilica di San Martino at Alzano Lombardo. There are also some altar at a parish churches in the valle Camonica near Cerveno and Angolo Terme. In Clusone, in the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta are a number of sculptures. Iacopo Negretti (1548/50 – 14 October 1628), best known as Jacopo or Giacomo Palma il Giovane or simply Palma Giovane ("Young Palma"), was an Italian painter from Venice and a notable exponent of the Venetian school. After Tintoretto's death (1594), Palma became Venice's dominant artist perpetuating his style. Giovan Battista Caniana (8 May 1671 – 5 May 1754) was an Italian sculptor and architect. Biography Caniana was born in Romano di Lombardia, and his father Giacomo Antonio, also a sculptor, died when he was 8 years old. His mother Datila sent him to study in Longhena, where he trained under Andrea Brustolon. A few years later Caniana returned to his family where he worked in a shop with his brothers. In 1694 after he married Bridget Grass, he turned to architecture and worked on a number of local projects.
