Alberto Moreno (politician)
Alberto Moreno (born Gotardo Hernan Rojas del Río; 31 May 1941) is a left-wing Peruvian politician. He is the general secretary of the Communist Party of Peru – Red Fatherland and the president of the New Left Movement. During the 1980s, police found an arms arsenal in the residence of Moreno. It was largely believed to have been planted there by agents of the state. Moreno was sentenced to 18 years' imprisonment, but after a second trial he was released on the grounds on insufficient evidence. Moreno was a founding member of the Revolutionary Left Union (UNIR) and formed part of the leadership of the Izquierda Unida - United Left (IU). Communist Party Of Peru – Red Fatherland
The Communist Party of Peru – Red Fatherland () is a political party in Peru founded in 1970, through a split in the Peruvian Communist Party – Red Flag. It is led by Alberto Moreno and Rolando Breña. Its youth wing is the Communist Youth of Peru. In 1980 it participated in the general elections on the lists of UNIR. In the same year it became one of the founding organizations of the United Left (IU). After the downfall of IU, PCdelP-PR launched New Left Movement (MNI) as its electoral front. Currently PCdelP-PR is the major Marxist group in the country. It used to participate in the build-up of the Broad Left Front (FAI) and it is currently a member of the left-wing electoral coalition Together for Peru. United Left (in Spanish: ''Izquierda Unida'') was an alliance of leftist political parties in Peru founded in 1980 by Popular Democratic Unity (UDP), Revolutionary Left Union (UNIR), Peruvian Communist Party (PCP), Revolutionary Socialist Party (PSR), Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR) and FOCEP. In 1984 UDP and a part of PCR converted itself into the Mariateguist Unified Party (PUM). PUM integrated itself in IU. IU was led by Alfonso Barrantes Lingán (who lost to Alan García in the 1985 elections) up to 1987. In 1989 IU held its first congress. 2006 Peruvian National Election
General elections were held in Peru in on 9 April 2006 to elect the President, two Vice-Presidents, 120 members of Congress and five members of the Andean Parliament for the 2006–2011 period. As the no presidential candidate received a majority of the vote, a second round was held on 4 June between the top two candidates, Ollanta Humala and Alan García. Garcia won the run-off with 52.63% to Humala's 47.37%. He was subsequently inaugurated on 28 July 2006, Peruvian Independence Day.
