Albany State Golden Rams Football
The Albany State Golden Rams football team represents Albany State University (ASU) in the sport of American football. The Golden Rams compete in the Division II of the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) and in the East Division of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). They play their home games at Albany State University Coliseum on the university's Albany, Georgia, campus, and are currently led by coach Gabe Giardina. In 2003, the Golden Rams played Fayetteville State in the Pioneer Bowl. Albany State won, 52–30. The Albany State Golden Rams were named the 2010 SBN Black college Football National Champions. Albany State University Coliseum
Albany State University Coliseum is a stadium in Albany, Georgia. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the Albany State University Golden Rams playing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) in the NCAA Division II. The stadium holds 10,000 people and opened in 2004 on the campus. Keyon Nash
DeRodrick "Keyon" Nash (born March 11, 1979) is an American football Safety (American football position), safety who was drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the 2002 NFL Draft. He played college football at Albany State University, Albany State. He has also been a member of the Rhein Fire (NFL Europe), Rhein Fire and Toronto Argonauts. Early years Nash attended Miller County High School in Colquitt, Georgia. Tropical Bowl (HBCUs)
The Tropical Bowl was a college football bowl game played at Gator Bowl Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. The game was played between 1951 and 1953 between historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The first game in 1951 was organized by Jacksonville businessmen after the 1951 Florida A&M Rattlers football team neglected to play a game in Jacksonville. Gabe Giardina
Gabe Giardina is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. He played college football at Alabama and had previously coached there, at Delta State and at Albany State. Early life and education Giardina attended State College Area High School in Pennsylvania for a year, then Penns Valley Area High School for two years, before spending one year at DuPont High School in West Virginia and one at The Kiski School. He enrolled at the University of Alabama in 2000 and was a walk-on member of their football team, playing placekicker and holder. John K. Wright (born November 8, 1948) is a former American football coach. He served as the head football coach at Kentucky State University in 1986, Johnson C. Willie A. Williamson Jr. (November 23, 1944 – August 7, 2021) was an American football coach. He served as head football coach at Albany State University from 1980 to 1981 and at Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Kentucky, compiling a career college football coaching record of 6–16. Williamson attended high school in Detroit, Michigan and played college football as a running back and defensive back at Anderson College—now known as Anderson University—in Anderson, Indiana. He played semi-pro football for three seasons with the Los Angeles Mustangs of the Western Professional League. Hampton Lee Smith (October 1, 1934 – October 2, 2023) was an American football and baseball coach. He served two stints as the head football coach at Albany State University in Albany, Georgia, from 1971 to 1976 and again from 1982 to 1999, and compiling a record of 157–90–4. Willie Everett Parker Jr. (born November 11, 1980) is an American former professional football player who was a running back for six seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). After playing college football for North Carolina, he was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in 2004.
