Albany Robichaud
Albany M. Robichaud (22 July 1903 – 27 October 1974) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Robichaud was a Progressive Conservative party member of the House of Commons of Canada. He was born in Shippagan, New Brunswick and became a barrister by career. He attended University of St. Joseph's College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1923, then in 1926 attained a Master of Arts. He proceeded to the University of New Brunswick for law studies where in 1927 he received a Bachelor of Civil Law degree then called to the bar that year. He then established a law practice in Bathurst, New Brunswick and in 1943 received a Doctor of Civil Law degree from Bathurst's Université du Sacré-Coeur. From 1945 to 1948, he was mayor of Bathurst. Robichaud ran unsuccessful campaigns for a House of Commons seat at the Gloucester riding in several federal elections. Shippagan
Shippagan is a Canadian town within Shippegan Parish, Gloucester County, New Brunswick. The parish retains the original English spelling, while the town officially adopted the colloquial French spelling on 1 July 1981. Shippagan was greatly enlarged on 1 January 2023, when it amalgamated with Le Goulet and all or part of seven local service districts Revised census figures have not been released. Geography Shippagan is located in the northeastern part of the Acadian Peninsula: a combination bridge-causeway connects the town with Lamèque Island to the northeast. 1940 Canadian Federal Election
The 1940 Canadian federal election was held March 26, 1940, to elect members of the House of Commons of Canada of the 19th Parliament of Canada. Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King's Liberal Party was re-elected to their second consecutive majority government. The election was overshadowed by the Second World War, which caused many Canadians to rally around the government. In response to this, the Conservative Party of Robert Manion ran on a platform advocating the creation of an all-party national unity government and ran under the name " National Government" in this election. Though Manion was personally opposed to conscription, the Liberals faced intense pressure in Quebec on the question and promised not to institute the measure.
