Albacete ( , , ) is a city and municipality in the Spanish autonomous community of Castilla–La Mancha, and capital of the province of Albacete. Lying in the south-east of the Iberian Peninsula, the area around the city is known as Los Llanos. Halfway between Madrid and the Mediterranean coast, it enjoys connections by motorway, railway (including AVE), and air ( Albacete Airport). The Fair of Albacete is celebrated from 7–17 September in the city of Albacete, Spain, to honor the ''Virgen de Los Llanos'', which translates to Virgin of the Plains. It was declared a Fiestas of International Tourist Interest of Spain, Fiesta of International Tourist Interest and takes place in the permanent fairground commonly known as 'the Pan' or 'the Circles' situated near the centre of the city. Albacete Airport
Albacete Airport is an airport operated by Aena located about south of the city of Albacete, the capital of the province of Albacete in Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It shares the runway and some facilities with Los Llanos Air Base, operated by the Spanish Air and Space Force. The airport is served by road CM-3203. It began operation as a civilian airport on 1 July 2003, after seventy-plus years solely used by the military. The first flight was flown by Hola Airlines to the Balearic Islands. Albacete and Ciudad Real Central Airport are the only public airports in Castilla La Mancha. The International Brigades () were soldiers recruited and organized by the Communist International to assist the Popular Front (Spain), Popular Front government of the Second Spanish Republic during the Spanish Civil War.
