Alan Rechuldak Seid (born June 9, 1957) is a Palauan businessman and politician of partially American Jewish origin. He was elected into House of Delegates of Palau from 1989 until 2000. He along with Chen Ding-nan agreed to build the Palasia Hotel in 1995. He was a senator in the Senate of Palau from 2005 to 2009 In the 2008 presidential election he was the running mate of Elias Camsek Chin Elias Camsek Chin (born 10 October 1949) is a Palauan politician. Chen Ding-nan
Chen Ding-nan (29 September 1943 – 5 November 2006), sometimes transliterated Chen Ting-nan or referred to as David Chen, was an environmentalist, Taiwanese statesmen and Minister of Justice noted for his efforts to fight corruption and characterized as a leader of the country's anti-nuclear movement. Due to the 9–13 July 2002 state visit to the United States of America Chen became the first Taiwan government official since 1979 (when the United States cut its official diplomatic relations with Taiwan) to have been invited into the White House. Palasia Hotel
Palasia Hotel is a hotel in Koror, Palau. It is the tallest building in Palau with 10 floors and a height of around 36m. The building cost $1 million to build and was funded by Taiwan. History In January 1995, Chen Ding-nan, president of the Asia-Pacific section of the Kuomintang’s (KMT's) Central Investment Holdings Company, visited Palau. By August 1995, Chen had made an agreement with Palauan politician Alan Seid to build the Palasia Hotel. Taiwan held 80 percent ownership and Palau held 20 percent. Due to the problems associated with property purchases by foreigners the hotel was built on Seid's land. The hotel opened on 24 August 1998. The Taiwanese stake in the Palasia Hotel is not held by the government of Taiwan but by the KMT political party in its private capacity. Senate Of Palau
The Senate of Palau is the upper house of the Palau National Congress (''Olbiil era Kelulau''). The Senate has 13 members serving four-year terms in multi-seat constituencies. No political parties exist. The most recent election was held on 3 November 2020. Membership The Constitution does not indicate the number of a members of the Senate. Every 8 years, the National Congress appoints a reapportionment commission to draw up and recommend a district map allocating seats in accordance with the population. Therefore, the number of senators may change as frequently as every 8 years. Any voter can challenge a reapportionment before the Palau Supreme Court. During the first legislature in 1981, there were 18 Senators, which was reduced to 14 in 1984. General elections were held in Palau on 4 November 2008 to elect the President and members of the National Congress. The presidential election was won by Johnson Toribiong. Incumbent President of Palau, President Tommy Remengesau was ineligible to run because he had served the maximum two consecutive terms allowed and announced that he would run for a seat in the Senate. Elias Camsek Chin (born 10 October 1949) is a Palauan politician. He served as the Vice President of Palau from 1 January 2005 to 15 January 2009. He was elected as the president of the Senate of Palau from 16 January 2013 to 19 January 2017. Early life Elias Camsek Chin was born in Peleliu, Palau, on October 11, 1949. His father, Taktai Chin, was the son of a Chinese miner at Angaur and a Palauan mother, and became Palau's first doctor. 2020 Palauan General Election
General elections were held in Palau on 3 November 2020 to elect a President and the National Congress. Electoral system The President of Palau is elected using the two-round system. The 13 members of the Senate are elected from a single nationwide constituency by block voting, with each voter having 13 votes to cast. The 16 members of the House of Delegates are elected in single-member constituencies based on the states using first-past-the-post voting.
