Alan Mellor
Alan John Mellor (born 4 July 1959) is a former English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire between 1978 and 1979. Mellor was born in Horninglow, Staffordshire. He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the 1978 season against Kent when he took five wickets for 52. He took 9 wickets in the season. He continued until the end of the 1979 season Mellor was a left-arm slow bowler and a right-handed batsman. Mellor played three Youth Test matches and one Youth ODI, during the summer of 1978 against the West Indies. Horninglow
Horninglow is a suburb of Burton upon Trent in East Staffordshire. Horninglow lies to the north west of Burton, and is linked to the town centre by the A511. It forms part of the civil parish of Horninglow and Eton. History Horninglow is one of the older parishes, shown on maps as early as . Over time its development has increased the size of the area to its current layout. The Church of England parish church of Horninglow is St John the Divine, part of the Diocese of Lichfield. The building dates from 1866; the architect was Edwin Holmes of Birmingham. Derbyshire County Cricket Club In 1978
Derbyshire County Cricket Club in 1978 was the cricket season when the English club Derbyshire had been playing for one hundred and seven years. They reached the final of the Benson & Hedges Cup. In the County Championship, they won three matches to finish fourteenth in their seventy fourth season in the Championship. They came eighth in the John Player League and did not progress beyond round 2 in the Gillette Cup. 1978 season Derbyshire reached the final of the Benson and Hedges Cup, losing to Kent. They played twenty two matches in the County Championship, one against Cambridge University and one against the touring Pakistanis. They won three first class matches overall, all in the Championship. In the Sunday league Derbyshire won six of the first eight matches but then lost the remaining six that were played. Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. The current Kent County Cricket Club was formed on 6 December 1870 following the merger of two representative teams. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out"). In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket.
