Alan Cockshaw
Sir Alan Cockshaw (born 14 July 1937) is an English civil engineer. Born in Manchester, he became the chief executive of Fairclough Civil Engineering in 1978 and, when this merged with the William Press Group to form AMEC in 1982, he became the chief executive (1984–88) and then chairman (1988-97). He was knighted in 1992. He became a fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 1986 and was president of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 1997 to 1998. Manchester () is a city in Greater Manchester, England. It had a population of 552,000 in 2021. David Green (civil Engineer)
David Frederick Green (born December 1937) is a British civil engineer, who served as president of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 1996–1997. He spent much of his career in Sheffield where he became director of operational services for the city council. In this role he spearheaded a reform of the city's direct labour operations, driving down costs and enabling it to operate on a competitive level with the private sector. As president from 1996 he sought more influence for the Institution of Civil Engineers over national policy. He was later chair of the Together Housing Group, a company providing social housing. Green was involved in the campaign for the introduction of new design standards for ship-to-shore walkways following the 1994 Prins Filip ferry walkway collapse that killed six people in Ramsgate. Roger Norman Sainsbury
Roger Sainsbury (born 11 June 1940) is a British civil engineer. He spent much of his career with the construction contractor Mowlem, including work on Immingham Oil Terminal and the Natwest Tower. He rose to become a director of the firm and was responsible for Mowlem’s participation in the creation of the Manchester Metro and for the company’s role as creator and developer of London City Airport. Sainsbury left Mowlem in December 1995 and subsequently devoted much time to the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), being president for the 1998-9 session. Sainsbury resigned his membership of the Institute in 2001, becoming the first president to take such a step, "because the way in which its affairs are conducted is, in my view, not compatible with its position of trust to its membership." This is a list of presidents of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The president's role is to represent the institution and to promote the profession to the public. The first president was Thomas Telford who had the office bestowed upon him for life in recognition of his contributions to the civil engineering profession. It became a biennial office with the election of William Cubitt, Sir William Cubitt in 1849 and an annual office with the election of George Berkley (engineer), Sir George Berkley in 1891, which it has remained since. On 18 December 1956 Harold Gourley died just six weeks after assuming the office in November. The South Tees Development Corporation (STDC) is the first Mayoral Development Corporation outside of Greater London established under the Cities and Local Government Devolution Act 2016.
