Alabama Trust Fund
The Alabama Trust Fund (ATF) is the wealth fund of the U.S. state of Alabama and was established in 1985 in response to a major offshore natural gas discovery in 1978. The fund is funded by royalty payments that are received each month from oil and gas companies and its assets total around $2.5 billion. The fund is invested in both fixed income and equities and is under the jurisdiction of the treasury of the State of Alabama. The fund is managed by external managers chosen by the board of trustees. The ATF’s nine-member board is chaired by Governor Kay Ivey. In 2012, a constitutional amendment was proposed that would take $145.8 million a year for three years from the trust fund’s principal to help balance the state General Fund budget, but the board was divided over whether this amendment should be adopted. Kay Ivey
Kay Ellen Ivey (born October 15, 1944) is an American politician serving as the 54th and incumbent governor of Alabama since 2017. Originally a conservative Southern Democrat, Ivey became a member of the Republican Party in 2002. She was the 38th Alabama state treasurer from 2003 to 2011 and the 30th lieutenant governor of Alabama from 2011 to 2017. Ivey became Alabama's second female governor and the first female Republican governor upon the resignation of her predecessor, Robert J. Bentley. Mobile Bay
Mobile Bay ( ) is a shallow inlet of the Gulf of Mexico, lying within the state of Alabama in the United States. Its mouth is formed by the Fort Morgan Peninsula on the eastern side and Dauphin Island, a barrier island on the western side. The Mobile River and Tensaw River empty into the northern end of the bay, making it an estuary. Several smaller rivers also empty into the bay: Dog River, Deer River, and Fowl River on the western side of the bay, and Fish River on the eastern side. Mobile Bay is the fourth largest estuary in the United States with a discharge of of water per second.
