Alabama State Route 50
State Route 50 (SR 50) is a state highway in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 229 near Lake Martin in northeastern Elmore County. The eastern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 29 (US 29) at Lanett, just west of the Georgia state line. Route description From its western terminus, SR 50 assumes an eastward trajectory as it skirts the southern shores of Lake Martin, traveling through rural areas of Elmore and Tallapoosa counties. East of where the highway would cross into Macon County if it were to continue its eastward trajectory, the highway takes a sudden turn to the northeast as it heads towards Camp Hill. Lake Martin
Lake Martin is located in Tallapoosa, Elmore and Coosa counties in Alabama. It is a 39,000-acre (178 km²) reservoir with over 750 miles (1,200 km) of wooded shoreline. Lake Martin is a reservoir, enlarged by the construction of Martin Dam on the Tallapoosa River.The Martin Dam powerhouse is used to generate hydroelectric power for the Alabama Power Company. Construction on Martin Dam began in 1923 and was completed in 1926, creating what was, at that time, the largest man-made body of water in the world. Originally known as Cherokee Bluffs for the geological formation upon which it was built, the dam was renamed in 1936 in honor of Thomas Martin, the then-president of Alabama Power Company. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Macon County is a county located in the east central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,532. Its county seat is Tuskegee. Its name is in honor of Nathaniel Macon, a member of the United States Senate from North Carolina. State Route 229 (SR 229) is a route that serves as a connection between Interstate 85 (I-85) south of Tallassee to SR 63 south of Lake Martin in Elmore County. Route description The southern terminus of SR 229 is located at Exit 26 off I-85 south of Millstead. From Millstead, the route takes a northerly track to Tallassee. In Tallassee, the route briefly shares a concurrency with SR 14 whilst traveling in a northwesterly direction. Just to the south of Burlington, it splits from SR 14 and resumes a northerly track to Red Hill. At Red Hill, the route takes a turn to the west towards its northern terminus at SR 63. Camp Hill, Alabama
Camp Hill is a town in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in 1895. At the 2010 census the population was 1,014, down from 1,273 in 2000. Camp Hill is the home to Southern Preparatory Academy (formerly known as "Lyman Ward Military Academy").
