Alabama State Route 164
State Route 164 (SR 164) is a route through Camden in Wilcox County in the west-central part of the state. The western terminus of the route is at its junction with SR 10/ SR 41 Truck on the western outskirts of Camden. The eastern terminus of the route is at its junction with SR 28 in Camden. Route description State Route 164 is approximately three miles long. It is aligned along the former route of State Route 10 as it approaches Camden from the west. The route connects State Route 10, which bypasses Camden to the north, and State Route 221, a western bypass of the town, with Camden along a two-lane route. The orientation of the route is east–west as it traverses its brief course. Camden, Alabama
Camden is a city in and the county seat of Wilcox County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,020 at the 2010 census, down from 2,257 in 2000, at which time it was a town. History What is now Camden was established on property donated by Thomas Dunn from his plantation holdings in order to have a new town founded on the site in 1833 to serve as the county seat. Dunn's Federal style house, built in 1825, is the oldest documented house in the town. The first county seat was in the community of Canton Bend. The county seat was moved in 1833 to Barboursville, later renamed Camden. It had been named Barboursville in honor of United States Congressman Philip P. Barbour of Virginia. Incorporated in 1841, Camden was renamed by local physician John D. Caldwell in honor of his hometown of Camden, South Carolina. Alabama State Route 10
State Route 10 (SR 10) is a major west–east state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama, running for through the southern part of the state. It is the lowest even-numbered route in the state that is not an unsigned partner route assigned to a U.S. Highway. It is also the only signed state route that extends from the Mississippi state line to the Georgia state line. The western terminus of the route is in northwestern Choctaw County near the community of Yantley, where it serves as a continuation of Mississippi Highway 19 (MS 19). The eastern terminus of the route is in Henry County near Shorterville. Once in Georgia, the route is designated as Georgia State Route 37 (SR 37). Alabama State Route 221
State Route 221 (SR 221) is a route that serves as a western bypass of Camden in Wilcox County. Route description The southern terminus of SR 221 is located at its intersection with SR 41 to the southwest of Camden. From this point, the route travels in a northward direction on a two-lane undivided road, passing through a mix of farms and woods. The road passes to the east of Camden Municipal Airport before coming to an intersection with SR 10. Following this, SR 221 continues north through wooded areas with some homes. The route runs through a mix of farmland and woodland before coming to its northern terminus at SR 28 northwest of Camden at Canton Bend.
