Thorhild is a hamlet in Alberta, Canada within Thorhild County. It is located at the intersection of Highway 18 and Highway 827, approximately north of the City of Edmonton. Thorhild was formerly a village until April 1, 2009, when it dissolved and became a hamlet within the County of Thorhild No. 7. It originally incorporated as a village on December 31, 1949. The Alberta and Great Waterways Railway paid $480 for the original townsite on July 16, 1914. Edmonton-Strathcona is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Canada. It shares the same name as the federal electoral district of Edmonton Strathcona. The boundaries of Edmonton-Strathcona include the neighbourhoods of Garneau, Strathcona, Queen Alexandra, Pleasantview, Allendale, Malmo Plains, Empire Park, Bonnie Doon and Idylwylde, and encompasses the historic district of Old Strathcona. Barrie Chivers (born November 8, 1940) is a Canadian former politician and current lawyer. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1990 to 1993 sitting with the official opposition Alberta New Democrats. Legal career Chivers has been admitted to the law society in Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. He founded his first law firm in 1973 Wright, Chivers & Co. to practice criminal and labour law. In 1987 after his partner went into provincial politics he founded Chivers-Greckol exclusively in labour, employment and human rights law. He left his practice in 1990 after winning a seat in the legislature. After his defeat from office Chivers resumed his legal career with the firm of Chivers Carpenter Lawyers. He also served as President of the Trade Union Lawyers' Association and a former vice president of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers. Rajinder Singh "Raj" Pannu (born January 12, 1934) is a Canadians, Canadian educator and politician, who led the Alberta New Democratic Party from 2000 to 2004. Pannu was born in Punjab, India, Punjab, India completing an undergraduate degree before immigrating to Canada in 1962. He settled in Whitecourt, Alberta, where he worked as a high school teacher until 1964. In 1964 he moved to Edmonton to work on a graduate program, completing a Doctor of Philosophy, Ph.D. in sociology in 1973. He taught at York University for one year (1968–69) before returning to the University of Alberta, where he taught for 27 years until his retirement in 1996. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Alberta.
