Albert L. Veys (January 10, 1919 – January 8, 2002) was the 39th mayor of Omaha, Nebraska. He took office on June 6, 1977, after a successful write-in campaign. Personal life Veys' wife was Mary Jean Veys. A write-in candidate is a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot but seeks election by asking voters to cast a vote for the candidate by physically writing in the person's name on the ballot. Douglas County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population is 584,526. It is the state's most populous county, home to well over one-fourth of Nebraska's residents. Its county seat is Omaha, the state's largest city. The county was established in 1854 and named after Stephen A. Douglas (1813–1861), who was then serving as Senator from Illinois. Douglas County is part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE-IA Metropolitan Statistical Area.
