Al Cliver
Pierluigi Conti (better known as Al Cliver) (born 16 July 1951) is a retired Italian actor who is perhaps best known for starring in horror and exploitation films, especially ones by directors Lucio Fulci and Jesús Franco. Career Cliver was discovered at the age of 16, he then started doing a few commercials and later at around the age of 22 he got into the world of Italian cinema. He decided to use the name Al Cliver as his stage name, as it was trendy for Italian actors at that time to use American stage names. He decided on after Al Capone, or Al Pacino and his surname was taken from a death row prisoner who wrote a best selling book. Cliver made his acting debut in 1974 in ''Il Saprofita''. He has starred in erotic, adventure and crime movies, but he is mostly memorable for starring in exploitation and horror films such as Lucio Fulci's ''Zombi 2'', '' The Black Cat'', '' The Beyond'' and '' Demonia'', and Jesús Franco's '' Mondo Cannibale'' and '' Devil Hunter''. Its plot follows a woman who inherits a hotel in rural Louisiana that was once the site of a horrific murder, and which may be a gateway to hell. It is the second film in Fulci's "Gates of Hell" trilogy after '' City of the Living Dead'' (1980), and was followed by '' The House by the Cemetery'' (1981). Devil Hunter (film)
''Devil Hunter'' (also known as ''The Man Hunter'', ''Mandingo Manhunter'', ''Jungfrau unter Kannibalen'' and ''Sexo Caníbal'') is a 1980 splatter film directed by Jesús Franco under the pseudonym "Clifford Brown" and written by Franco and Julián Esteban (under the pseudonym Julius Valery). It was shot back-to-back with Franco's ''Mondo Cannibale'' (also 1980). It is one of the infamous "video nasties" that were banned in the United Kingdom in the 1980s. Lina Romay was credited with co-directing this film, while Franco's first wife Nicole Guettard edited it. This shows that Franco was still with Guettard as late as 1980 (eventually they broke up and she was replaced in Franco's life by Romay). Pierre Chevalier was the art director on this film. Release The film was released on 5 December 1980 in West Germany as ''Jungfrau unter Kannibalen'', and in Spain as ''Sexo Canibal''. It was theatrically released in the U.S., the U.K. and Italy as ''The Man Hunter'', but was later r ...
