Al-Wakrah Sport Club ( ar, نادي الوكرة الرياضي) is a Qatari professional sports club based in Al Wakrah. Their professional football team competes in the Qatar Stars League and play their home games at the Al-Haribo Stadium. Name history *1959: Founded as ''Al-Wakrah Youth Club'' *1967: Changed name to ''Al-Wakrah Sport Club'' History Al Wakrah was founded in 1959, and was officially legitimized in 1965 under the name of ''Al Wakrah Youth Club''. From that time, its football and handball sections were formed, with both participating in local competitions. It later changed its name to ''Al Wakrah Sports Club'' in 1967. Over the years, it branched out to many sports, including chess, basketball, and bowling. Al Janoub Stadium
Al-Janoub Stadium ( ar, استاد الجنوب, ʾIstād al-Janūb, Stadium of the South), formerly known as Al-Wakrah Stadium (), is a retractable roof football stadium in Al-Wakrah, Qatar that was inaugurated on 16 May 2019. This is the second among the eight stadiums for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, after the renovation of Khalifa International Stadium. It was designed by Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid (1950–2016) together with the firms AECOM and Jain and Partners of Dubai. The stadium features a curvilinear postmodernist and neo-futurist design. The appearance of the roof was inspired by the sails of traditional Dhow boats, used by pearl divers from the region, weaving through currents of the Persian Gulf. Bartolomé "Tintín" Márquez López (born 7 January 1962) is a Spanish retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder, currently the manager of Qatari club Al-Wakrah SC. Al Wakrah ( ar, الوكرة, al-Wakra) is the capital city of the Al Wakrah Municipality in Qatar. The Qatar Stars League ( ar, دوري نجوم قطر), or the QSL, also called QNB Stars League for sponsorship reasons, is the top level football league in Qatar football league system. Contested by 12 teams, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Qatari Second Division (QSD). Seasons of the QSL usually run from September to April. The Sheikh Jassim Cup ( ar, كأس الشيخ جاسم) is an annual men's super cup competition in Qatari football held between the winner of the Qatar Stars League and the Emir of Qatar Cup.
