Al-Shymaa Kway-Geer
Al-Shymaa Kway-Geer (born 1960) is a member of the parliamentary body, the National Assembly, of Tanzania. She is one of 48 women appointed to the Assembly by President Jakaya Kikwete. She was appointed in 2008. Kway-Geer was born in Tanga, Tanzania. A former airline clerk, BBC News Kway-Geer, who has albinism, is charged with improving the treatment of such people in Tanzania, where many believe the condition to be a curse or source of al power. Jakaya Kikwete
Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete (born 7 October 1950) is a Tanzanian politician who was the fourth president of Tanzania, in office from 2005 to 2015. Prior to his election as president, he was the Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 2005 under his predecessor, Benjamin Mkapa. He also served as the chairperson of the African Union from 2008–2009 and the chairman of the Southern African Development Community Troika on Peace, Defence and Security from 2012–2013. Albinism is the congenital absence of melanin in an animal or plant resulting in white hair, feathers, scales and skin and pink or blue eyes. Individuals with the condition are referred to as albino. Persecution of people with albinism (sometimes abbreviated PWA) is based on the belief that certain body parts of albinistic people can transmit magical powers. Such superstition is present especially in some parts of the African Great Lakes region, it has been promulgated and exploited by witch doctors and others who use such body parts as ingredients in rituals, concoctions and potions with the claim that their magic will bring prosperity to the user (''muti'' or medicine murder). As a result, people with albinism have been persecuted, killed and dismembered, and graves of albinos dug up and desecrated. At the same time, people with albinism have also been ostracised and even killed for exactly the opposite reason, because they are presumed to be cursed and bring bad luck. Salum Khalfani Bar'wani
Salum Khalfan Barwany or Salum Khalfani Bar'wani (born 30 June 1959) is a Tanzanian CUF politician and Member of Parliament for Lindi Town constituency. He is the first Tanzanian MP with albinism to be elected to parliament. He was elected to the National Assembly of Tanzania ( sw, Bunge la Tanzania) on 2 November 2010 from the district of Lindi Urban in the far south-east, and is the first albino to be elected to the Bunge in the country's history (the first to sit in the legislature was a woman, Al-Shymaa Kway-Geer, who appointed to the Bunge by the President, two years earlier).
