Al-Musawar
''Al-Musawar'' (; ''the Illustrated'') is an Egyptian weekly current events magazine. The weekly is a state-owned publication, and its headquarters is in Cairo. It has been in circulation since 1925. History and profile ''Al Musawar'' was launched as a weekly in 1925. The founder of the weekly was George Bey Zidan. Emil and Shukri Zidan are also the founders of the weekly which is published on Saturdays. The publisher is Dar Al Hilal Publishing House. On 17 December 1932 the magazine began to publish a sports supplement, ''Al Abtal'' (meaning ''Champions'' in English). The weekly has been owned by the Egyptian government since 1960 and its editors-in-chief and head of the publishing house are appointed by the state. As of 2011 ''Al Musawar'' was cited as a liberal magazine. One of its longest-serving editors was journalist Fekry Abaza. Amīnah Al-Saʿīd
Amīnah al-Saʿīd also known as Amīnah Saʻīd (1914–1995; ar, أمينة السعيد) was an Egyptian journalist and women's rights activist. She founded Egypt's first women's magazine and was the first woman magazine editor in the Middle East. Biography Saʿīd was born on 20 January 1914 in Cairo, Egypt. She joined the youth wing of the Egyptian Feminist Union at the age of 14. She was among the first women to attend Fuad I University in 1931. She earned a degree in English literature in 1935. Saʿīd was opposed to veiling and played tennis in public without a veil. She joined the news magazine ''Al-Musawar'' as a columnist. Saʿīd founded ''Hawaa'' in 1954. She was among the earliest full-time female journalists in the country. From 1958 to 1969 she was secretary general of the Pan-Arab League Women's Union. She became editor of ''Al-Musawar'' in 1973. Fekry Abaza
Fekry Pasha Abaza (1895 – 9 February 1979) was an Egyptian journalist and democratic political activist. Early life and education Abaza was born in 1895 in the village of Kafr Abu Shehata in the East, Egypt. He was a member of the Abaza Family. He was one of the first graduates of faculty of commerce at Cairo University. Career Abaza began his journalism career by writing for the newspaper ''Al-Maiied'', and then for the newspaper ''Al-Ahram'' in 1919. He joined the National Democratic Party in 1921. Afterward, he served as an editor for the magazine ''Al-Musawar'' for two years before being promoted to editor in chief in 1926. He worked for the magazine until 1961 and occupied the position of chief editor of the monthly Egyptian magazine '' Al-Hilal'' (Crescent) for several of those years.
