Al-Jafr, Jordan
Al-Jafr ( ar, الجفر) is a city in the Ma'an Governorate of Jordan. It is located near the city of Ma'an, and is roughly east of Amman. It was the site of an April Fools' Day hoax in 2010 that has drawn comparisons to the famous American '' The War of the Worlds'' broadcast. Jordan
Jordan ( ar, الأردن; tr. ' ), officially the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,; tr. ' is a country in Western Asia. It is situated at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, within the Levant region, on the East Bank of the Jordan River. Governorates Of Jordan
Jordan is divided into three regions, further into twelve governorates ('' muhafatha''), further subdivided into districts ('' liwa''), and often into sub-districts ('' qada''). 1994 reform In 1994, four new governorates were created as part of the administrative divisions system of the Ministry of Interior: Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba and Aqaba. Ma'an Governorate
Ma'an ( ar, معان) is one of the governorates of Jordan, it is located south of Amman, Jordan's capital. Its capital is the city of Ma'an. This governorate is the largest in the kingdom of Jordan by area. History The land of the Governorate of Ma'an hosts many historic sites. Ma'an
Ma'an ( ar, مَعان, Maʿān) is a city in southern Jordan, southwest of the capital Amman. It serves as the capital of the Ma'an Governorate. Its population was approximately 41,055 in 2015. Civilizations with the name of Ma'an have existed at least since the Nabatean period—the modern city is just northwest of the ancient town. Jafr Alien Invasion
The Jafr alien invasion was a April Fools' Day, prank published on the front page of the Jordanian newspaper ''Al-Ghad'' on April 1, 2010. The article claimed that UFOs had landed in a desert close to the town of Al-Jafr, Jordan, Jafr, and described the Extraterrestrial life, pilots of the objects as "3m (10ft) creatures". The newspaper reported that all communications "went down" due to the effect generated by the objects. The story described in great detail that the town had been lit by the aliens' flying saucers during their night landing, and that the light caused residents to run out into the streets. After word of the article spread throughout Jafr, many residents were terrified and kept their children home from school. Jafr Mayor Mohammed Mleihan notified security authorities and prepared to issue an evacuation order for the entire town of 13,000 residents. "The War of the Worlds" was a Halloween episode of the radio series ''The Mercury Theatre on the Air'' directed and narrated by Orson Welles as an adaptation of H. G. Wells's novel ''The War of the Worlds'' (1898). It was performed and broadcast live at 8 pm ET on October 30, 1938 over the CBS Radio Network. The land speed record (or absolute land speed record) is the highest speed achieved by a person using a vehicle on land.
