Al-Athori SC
Al-Athori Sports Club or Nadi Athori ( ar, النادي الأثوري الرياضي, lit=''Assyrian Sports Club''), is an Iraqi football club based in Baghdad that was founded in 1955. They were the champions of the Iraq Central FA League in the 1959–60 season. They were led by player-manager Ammo Baba in that season. They were relegated from the top division in 1962 and now compete in the lower divisions of Iraqi football. The club wears blue and white striped shirts. In 1974, the club was renamed to 'Al-Tamouz' but they returned to the name of Nadi Athori in 1987. History The famous Assyrian Sports Club of Baghdad was formed in 1955 to represent the growing Assyrian population in the capital, many Assyrians had come to Baghdad from Habbaniya in the same year after control of the RAF base was handed over to Iraq from the British. Iraq Division One
The Iraq Division One is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Premier League. The league is contested by 24 clubs. It is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Division One are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The four lowest-finishing teams in the Division One are relegated to Division Two. The number of clubs in the league have changed throughout history, most recently in the 2021–22 season when the number of clubs decreased from 28 to 24. Jalil Shihab
Jalil Shihab ( ar, جليل شهاب) (born 1927) was a former Iraq national player and coach. He became the first Iraqi to have played and coached the full national side when he was appointed to be the head coach of the national side in 1967. He took charge of the Iraq national team at the 1967 Fairs' Cup in Tripoli, lifting the cup ahead of hosts Libya and Sudan. Racing Club (), known as Racing Beirut or simply Racing, is a football club based in Achrafieh, a district in Beirut, Lebanon, that competes in the . Hamza Qasim ( ar, حمزة قاسم ; born 1933) is a retired Iraqi football goalkeeper, who played with the Iraq national team in the 1957 Pan Arab Games. He also played for Al-Minaa. Coaching career Qasim served as coach for Al-Minaa from 1971 to 1974. Multi-talent and activities Qasim was born in Basra, and was a multi-sport athlete. In addition to being an international footballer, he was a basketball player for the Iraq national basketball team. He was also a competitor in athletics (high jump and 110 metres hurdles). Qasim founded the first Iraqi Badminton Federation, and founded the first team for badminton in Iraq, establishing men's and women's teams in 1970s. Aram Karam
Aram Karam (; born 1926) was one of the first great Iraqi footballers, who earned a reputation for scoring goals from apparently impossible long-range situations. He was an ethnic Assyrian and Christian. He was a son of a Levy soldier from Habbaniya. Aram was a striker capable of having the ball in the back of the net within a blink of an eye. After playing for various teams on RAF Hinaidi in Baghdad from 1936 in his youth, he joined Arsenal Sports Club Habbaniya in 1943 and later played for the C.C. Team and founded RAF Levy Civilian of Habbaniya. In 1951, Aram was one of 16 players to be selected to play for Iraq’s first ever national team. He missed Iraq’s first international game against Turkey in Izmir on 6 May, which ended 7-0 to the hosts, but competed in the second game six days later against Ankara Select. Radhi Shenaishil Swadi ( ar, راضي شنيشل سوادي; born 11 August 1969) is a former Iraqi footballer and former coach of the Iraq national football team, and currently manages Iraq U23. Playing career Radhi Shenaishil was born and brought up in Al-Thawra City in Baghdad. He captained an Iraqi Under 20s team and helped them to top their group which included Spain, Norway and Argentina, who they beat 1–0 with Radhi scoring the winner from a penalty against a side featuring Diego Simeone and Roberto Bonano in the FIFA World Youth Championship in Saudi Arabia in 1989. Ayoub Odisho Barjam ( ar, أيوب اوديشو; born 15 December 1960), is an Iraqi Assyrian people, Assyrian former football player and coach of Al-Zawraa SC, Al Zawraa in the Iraqi Premier League. Playing career Ayoub was a tough tackling full-back, who played for Al-Talaba during a playing career that spanned 14 years.
