Akzhol Makhmudov
Akzhol Makhamadzhanovich Makhmudov (russian: Акжол Махамаджанович Махмудов; born 15 April 1999) is a Kyrgyzstani Greco-Roman wrestler. He won the silver medal in 77kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. He won a gold medal at the 2022 World Championships, becoming Kyrgyzstan's first ever Greco-Roman World champion. Makhmudov repeated his success a year later at the 2023 World Championships, and won another gold medal- becoming a two-time World champion. Wrestling career Until senior level Makhmudov took up wrestling aged six, following his two elder brothers. He later won two Asian cadet championships and the 2017 Junior Asian championships. The 2021 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament was the fourth and final regional qualifying tournament for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The event was held from 9 to 11 April 2021, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The 2021 Asian Wrestling Championships were held at the same venue. Qualification summary A total of 36 athletes secured a spot in the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan. Two spots were given to each of the weight classes in every event. Wrestling at the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games were held in Konya, Turkey from 10 to 13 August 2022. Each National Olympic Committee (NOC) has the right to participate with a maximum of one wrestler per weight category in all styles (Greco-Roman, women and freestyle). The maximum number of athletes per delegation is 30.All competitors must be of senior age category (born on or before 31 December 2004). The competitions take place by direct elimination system with an ideal number of wrestlers, i.e. 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc. If there is no ideal number of wrestlers in a category, qualification matches will take place. The Games involve the elite athletes of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation who compete in a variety of sports. The Solidarity Games were initially created to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth.
