Akyaka Railway Station
Akyaka station ( tr, Akyaka garı) is a station in the town of Akyaka, Kars in northeastern Turkey. TCDD Taşımacılık operates a twice-daily regional train from Kars. The station was originally opened in 1899 by the Transcaucasus Railway as Shuregel station ( tr, Şöregel, russian: Шурегель), when Akyaka was a part of the Russian Empire. In 1922, the station was renamed Kızılçakçak station to reflect the name change of the settlement. The railway, and the station, was taken over by the Turkish government-owned Eastern Railway in 1925, which became the Turkish State Railways in 1929. In 1962, TCDD converted the broad gauge railway to standard gauge and rebuilt the station, which was renamed to its current name in 1966. Turkish Republic Railways
The State Railways of the Republic of Turkey ( tr, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devlet Demiryolları), abbreviated as TCDD, is a government-owned national railway company responsible with the ownership and maintenance of railway infrastructure in Turkey, as well as the planning and construction of new lines. TCDD was formed on 4 June 1929 as part of the nationalisation of railways in Turkey. The Turkish State Railways own and maintain all public railways in Turkey. This includes railway stations, ports, bridges and tunnels, yards and maintenance facilities. Kars
Kars (; ku, Qers; ) is a city in northeast Turkey and the capital of Kars Province. Its population is 73,836 in 2011. Kars was in the ancient region known as ''Chorzene'', (in Greek Χορζηνή) in classical historiography ( Strabo), part of Kingdom of Armenia (antiquity), in Ayrarat province, and later the capital of Bagratid Kingdom of Armenia in 929–961. Akyaka ( ota, شوره کل ''Şoregil'' or ''Şöregel'', az, Ağyaxa or , ; ) is a district of Kars Province in eastern Turkey, and the name of the small town that is the district's administrative capital.
