Akercocke
Akercocke are an English extreme metal band from London, formed in 1997 by Jason Mendonça and David Gray. The band also features Paul Scanlan and Nathanael Underwood. History Akercocke's first album, '' Rape of the Bastard Nazarene'', was self-released by the band in 1999. Akercocke later signed to Peaceville Records, releasing ''The Goat of Mendes'' in 2001, which reached number 4 in Terrorizer's album of the year chart. In 2003 the album '' Choronzon'' was released, through Earache Records. This album was voted number 1 metal release of the year by Terrorizer. Paul Scanlan left the band after this album, and was replaced by Matt Wilcock. '' Words That Go Unspoken, Deeds That Go Undone'' was released in October 2005. Antichrist (Akercocke Album)
''Antichrist'' is the fifth studio album by English death metal band Akercocke, released in 2007. It is their third release on Earache Records and the first to feature Peter Benjamin on bass, having replaced Peter Theobalds. The limited edition super jewel case version (Limited to 8000 copies worldwide) includes two bonus tracks, these are covers of songs by Morbid Angel & Death. A video has been released for the song "Axiom". The lyrics "I believe that when I die, I shall rot, and nothing of my ego shall survive" from "Axiom" are taken from the writings of Bertrand Russell. Recording The preparations for the recording of ''Antichrist'' began in late November 2006. The band started recording at its own Goat of Mendes Studios in December. It was released independently on October 10, 2005, and on February 7, 2006 through Earache Records. This album is the first Akercocke release not to feature the original line-up of the band, with Matt Wilcock (ex-The Berzerker) instead of Paul Scanlan on guitar; though the majority of the material was co-written with Paul Scanlan before he was fired. ''Choronzon'' is the third studio album by English death metal band Akercocke. It was released on 4 November 2003, through Earache Records. Background The sample at the start of the album is from the opening scene of the ''Hammer House of Horror'' episode "Guardian of the Abyss". ''Rape of the Bastard Nazarene'' is the first studio album by English death metal band Akercocke. It was released on 28 December 1999, through the band's own record label Goat of Mendes. Musical style AllMusic described the album's style as "an interesting mix of two musical styles that don't often go together. Voices (British Band)
Voices are a black metal band from London founded in 2011. Formed by former members of Akercocke, the band has described itself as seeking to produce "extreme and challenging music." Biography Voices was formed in 2011 by David Gray, Sam Loynes, and Peter Benjamin following the break-up of Akercocke. In 2012, Voices signed with Candlelight Records. The band released its debut, ''From the Human Forest Create a Fugue of Imaginary Rain'' in 2013. Peter Benjamin explained that the band was heavily influenced by movies, particularly the 2009 film ''Tony (2009 film), Tony London Serial Killer'' by Gerard Johnson. He described the film as "about a guy who just can't connect with reality at all or people or anything. Bloodstock Open Air is a British heavy metal music, heavy metal rock festival, festival held annually at Catton Hall in Walton-on-Trent, Derbyshire, since 2005. Originally held indoors for one day with two stages, the festival started in 2001 at the Derby Assembly Rooms and has expanded over the years. It became an outdoor event in 2005. Peaceville Records
Peaceville Records is a British independent heavy metal record label. The label was founded by Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw (of the bands Instigators and Civilised Society) in Dewsbury, England in 1987, who was also a one-time drummer of Sore Throat. Originally a tape label releasing anarcho punk, the releases moved towards metal through crust punk and similar forms of metal-influenced English hardcore punk. Halmshaw started running the label full-time in 1988, although the original tape label incarnation was founded in 1981 as a vehicle for releasing Instigators demo cassettes. The label is therefore known for the connection between doom metal and the 1980s English crust punk scene. Earache Records is a British independent record label, music publisher and management company founded by Digby Pearson in 1985, based in Nottingham, England, with offices in London and New York. The label helped to pioneer extreme metal by releasing early grindcore and death metal records between the late 1980s and mid-1990s. Its roster has since diversified into more mainstream guitar music, working with bands such as Rival Sons, the Temperance Movement, Blackberry Smoke, Scarlet Rebels and the White Buffalo.
