Ajay Kochhar
Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, AVSM, NM is a serving Flag officer in the Indian Navy. He currently serves as the Commandant of the National Defence Academy. He last served as the Project Director (Operations and Training) in the ATV Project Headquarters. He earlier served as the Flag Officer Commanding Western Fleet and prior to that was the third commanding officer of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. Naval career Kochhar was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1988. He is a specialist in Gunnery and Missile Warfare. He has commanded five warships of the Indian Navy. On 29 June 2013, as the commissioning commanding officer of the Talwar-class stealth guided missile frigate , he commissioned the ship in Kaliningrad, Russia. Vice Admiral (India)
Vice admiral is a three-star flag officer rank in the Indian Navy. It is the second-highest active rank in the Indian Navy. Vice admiral ranks above the two-star rank of rear admiral and below the four-star rank of admiral, which is held by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS). The equivalent rank in the Indian Army is lieutenant general and in the Indian Air Force is air marshal. Sainya Seva Medal
The Sainya Seva Medal is a medal of the Indian Armed Forces. The medal is awarded in recognition of non-operational service under conditions of hardship and severe climate in specified areas. History The Sainya Seva Medal was instituted on 26 January 1960 by the Government of India, with the approval of the President of India. Five other medals were instituted on the same day - the Vishisht Seva Medal series (Class I, Class II, Class III), the Videsh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Nao Sena Medal and the Vayu Sena Medal. Operation Parakram Medal
Operations Parakram Medal is a military award of India. It was awarded in recognition of the services of Armed Forces personnel and civilians in Operation Parakram. All ranks of the Indian Armed Forces including Territorial Army, Auxiliary and Reserve Forces, Nursing officers and other members of the Nursing services and other lawfully constituted Armed Forces who were involved in the operation were awarded the medal. The Operation Vijay Medal is a service medal that recognises Armed Forces personnel and civilians who were part of the larger Indian armed forces fraternity including the Army, Navy and Air Force, and who were involved or mobilized during operations at various field locations as well as Headquarters during Operation Vijay in 1999. Operation Vijay Star
The Operation Vijay Star is a service medal for recognition of Armed Forces personnel and civilians who participated in combat operations during Operation Vijay in 1999. Those personnel who were mobilised but did not serve in the conflict zone were eligible for the Operation Vijay Medal. Criteria The medal is awarded to all personnel of the following forces who participated in ‘OP VIJAY’ against the enemy in the area of conflict/operations on the ground, on the sea or in the air as specified. The Samanya Seva Medal 1965 (''General Service Medal 1965'') is a military service medal of the Indian Armed Forces. Established 8 May 1975, with retroactive effect to 26 January 1965, the Samanya Seva Medal is awarded for active service where no other campaign medal is awarded. Frigate
A frigate () is a type of warship. In different eras, the roles and capabilities of ships classified as frigates have varied somewhat. The name frigate in the 17th to early 18th centuries was given to any full-rigged ship built for speed and maneuverability, intended to be used in scouting, escort and patrol roles. The term was applied loosely to ships varying greatly in design. In the second quarter of the 18th century, the 'true frigate' was developed in France. This type of vessel was characterised by possessing only one armed deck, with an unarmed deck below it used for berthing the crew.
