Air Accident Investigation Bureau (Malaysia)
The Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB; ms, Biro Siasatan Kemalangan Udara) is an independent body that investigates civil aviation accidents and incidents that occur in Malaysia, in line with the guidance provided in the Annex 13 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (ICAO Annex 13) and in compliance with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016 (CAR 2016). The AAIB operates under of the Ministry of Transport (Malaysia), Ministry of Transport of the Government of Malaysia, stationed in Putrajaya, and reports directly to the Minister of Transport. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is Australia's national transport safety investigator. The ATSB is the federal government body responsible for investigating transport-related accidents and incidents within Australia. It covers air, sea and rail travel. Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17/MAS17) was a scheduled passenger flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur that was shot down by Russian forces on 17 July 2014, while flying over eastern Ukraine.
