Ain Vilde
Ain Vilde (born 11 September 1942 in Sadala Parish, Tartu County) is an Estonian ice yachter and sailor. In 1973 he won World Ice Yachting Championships (DN-class). 1962-1990 he won many medals at Estonian Ice Yachting and Estonian Sailing Championships. In 1973 he was named to Estonian Athlete of the Year. Ice Yachter
An iceboat (occasionally spelled ice boat or traditionally called an ice yacht) is a recreational or competition sailing craft supported on metal runners for traveling over ice. One of the runners is steerable. Originally, such craft were boats with a support structure, riding on the runners and steered with a rear blade, as with a conventional rudder. As iceboats evolved, the structure became a frame with a seat or cockpit for the iceboat sailor, resting on runners. Steering was shifted to the front. Estonian Athlete Of The Year
The Estonian Athlete of the Year ( et, Eesti Aasta Sportlane) is an annual award presented by the Estonian Olympic Committee (''Eesti Olümpiakomitee'', EOK) to one male and one female sportsperson judged to have delivered the best performance over the course of the year. The winners of the award, which was first conceived in the 1930s and has been presented every year since 1955, are chosen by an aggregated vote from sporting journalists, national sporting federations, and the public at large. Initially an accolade presented to one individual, the award was split into male and female categories beginning in 1967. In 2020 the two categories were merged due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic to the international and national sporting calendars.
