Aiguablava
The Cala d'Aiguablava is a small bay on the Costa Brava, Girona, Catalonia (Spain) near Begur and Palafrugell with a small beach (busy in the summer months) and a few mainly seafood restaurants. It is a popular mooring place for sailing and motor boats. Overlooking the bay on one side is a large parador, the ''Parador De Aiguablava'', situated high on a clifftop. The GR 92 long distance footpath, which runs the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, crosses the beach. Fornells De Mar
Fornells de Mar (zipcode 17255), also known as Platja de Fornells or simply Fornells, is a village, bay and port on the Costa Brava and in the municipality of Begur, Catalonia, Spain. It lies between and Tamariu. It was formerly mainly a fishing village and there is still some fishing activity. Fornells is the site of the Port d'Aiguablava, a marina with 61 moorings operated by the Club Nàutic Aiguablava. Within Fornells itself there are, from north to south, the larger beach of ''Platja Fonda'', and the smaller coves of ''Cala n’Estasia'', ''Cala Port de ses Orats'', ''Cala d’en Malaret'' and ''Cala Port d’Esclanyà''. Paradores
Paradores de Turismo de España , branded as Paradores, is a Spanish state-owned chain of luxury hotels that are usually located in historic buildings or in nature areas with a special appeal. Its very first parador was inaugurated on 9 October 1928 in Navarredonda de Gredos (Ávila). As of 2022, it operates ninety-seven paradors in Spain and one in Portugal, with 5,988 rooms in total. Every parador has its own restaurant offering the regional gastronomy of its area. The company was created with the double objective of promoting tourism in areas that lacked adequate accommodations, and of putting unused large historic buildings to use, for the maintenance of the national heritage. Begur, Spain
Begur is a village and municipality in the comarca of Baix Empordà and province of Girona in Catalonia, Spain. The village itself lies some from, and above, the coastline of the Costa Brava, but the municipality includes several seaside resorts. The municipality of Begur has 3,986 inhabitants (according to the census of 2005). It is an important tourist attraction in the Baix Empordà. During the summer, the population can exceed 40,000 people. Despite its tourist character, the village has important historical remnants that go back in early history. The castle of Begur is a good example of medieval remains. The castle was constructed in the 16th and 17th centuries. Tamariu
Tamariu (, Catalan for ''tamarisk'') is one of three coastal towns belonging to the municipality of Palafrugell, province of Girona, Spain, the other two being Calella de Palafrugell and Llafranc. It is part of the Costa Brava, the coastal region of northeastern Catalonia, in the comarca of Baix Empordà. It is situated about south of the border with France and close to the nearby inland towns of Palafrugell and Begur. The name ''Tamariu'' derives from the presence of many tamarisk trees along the promenade, which separates the beach from the narrow streets and whitewashed buildings of the town. Tamariu was originally a small fishing village, and fishing boats are still to be seen drawn up on the beach. Costa Brava
The Costa Brava (, ; "Wild Coast" or "Rough Coast") is a coastal region of Catalonia in northeastern Spain. Whilst sources differ on the exact definition of the Costa Brava, it can be regarded as stretching from the town of Blanes, northeast of Barcelona, to the French border, and thus includes the coastal parts of the province of Girona. In the 1950s, the Costa Brava was identified by the Spanish government and local entrepreneurs as being suitable for substantial development as a holiday destination, mainly for package holiday tourists from Europe. GR 92
The GR 92 is part of the extensive GR footpath network of paths, tracks and trails in Spain. It will eventually run the length of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, from Portbou, on the border with France to Tarifa, the most southerly point of Spain. In doing so it will pass through the autonomous communities of Catalonia, Valencia, Murcia and Andalusia. The sections in Catalunya and Murcia are complete and fully signposted, but work is still in progress on the sections in Valencia and Andalusia, and sources differ on the eventual length of the path. Girona (officially and in Catalan language, Catalan , Spanish: ''Gerona'' ) is a city in northern Catalonia, Spain, at the confluence of the Ter River, Ter, Onyar, Galligants, and Güell rivers. Palafrugell
Palafrugell () is a municipality in the Mediterranean ''Costa Brava'', located near Palamós in the ''comarca'' of Baix Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. With 22,365 inhabitants it is the largest city of its comarca. Several coastal and interior towns (Llafranc, Calella de Palafrugell, Tamariu and Llofriu) belong to this city. The area's summer climate and beaches have been exploited for tourism. In additional to international tourism, Palafrugell serves as a summer holiday town for residents of cities such as Barcelona and Girona. This medieval town was once fortified but is no longer. ''Quercus suber'', commonly called the cork oak, is a medium-sized, evergreen oak tree in the section ''Quercus'' sect. ''Cerris''. It is the primary source of cork for wine bottle stoppers and other uses, such as cork flooring and as the cores of cricket balls. It is native to southwest Europe and northwest Africa.
