Aidas Preikšaitis
Aidas Preikšaitis (born 15 July 1970) is a Lithuanian former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Preikšaitis was born in Akmenė. He represented FK Žalgiris Vilnius from 1989 to 1997. His former teams include 1. FC Union Berlin, Kickers Emden, KSZO Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski Wisla Plock S.S.A. 1947, Swit Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki. He played 6 games and scored 1 goal in the UEFA Intertoto Cup 1997 for FC Torpedo-Luzhniki Moscow. International career Preikšaitis made 48 appearances for the Lithuania national football team from 1992 to 2006. Akmenė
Akmenė () is a city in northern Lithuania. Following the discovery of large reserves of limestone and clay in the region, in 1947 construction work began on one of the largest cement production complexes in the Baltic States. Nearby, a new town grew up which was to become the region's administrative centre: Naujoji Akmenė ("New Akmenė"). Name Most probably the name is derived from a rivulet that flows north of the town: the Akmenupis (approximate meaning – "river with a lot of stones"). The Baltic Cup ( et, Balti turniir, lv, Baltijas kauss, lt, Baltijos taurė) is an international association football, football competition contested by the national teams of the Baltic states – Estonia national football team, Estonia, Latvia national football team, Latvia and Lithuania national football team, Lithuania. Finland national football team, Finland has also participated in the event twice as a guest and so did Iceland national football team, Iceland once. Though originally held annually the competition has been Biennale, biennial since 2008. The 2020 tournament was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic, and took place in 2021. A Lyga
The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. The A Lyga is an abbreviation of Aukščiausia lyga meaning Highest League. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation LFF ( lt, Lietuvos Futbolo Federacija). The Aukščiausia lyga also existed during the Soviet period of Lithuania, but was not considered to be a professional league until dissolution of the Soviet Union. The league size has varied between 8 and 12 teams in the recent seasons, however 2020 A Lyga the league featured record low of only 6 teams. But in the latest 2021 A Lyga season there were 10 teams. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process.
