Aiani
Aiani ( el, Αιανή, before 1926: Καλλιανή - ''Kalliani'') is a town and a former municipality in the Kozani regional unit, Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Kozani, of which it is a municipal unit. The 2011 census recorded 2,006 residents in the village and 3,429 residents in municipal unit of Aiani. The municipal unit has an area of 156.004 km2, the community 52.336 km2. Name It took its name from the Aianus ( grc, Αἰανος). According to the Greek mythology Aianus was the son of Elymus. History Aiani was the capital of Elimiotis, a kingdom and region of Upper Macedonia, which became part of Macedon. Since 1983, systematic excavations in the area have brought to light finds that attest the existence of an organised city from the late 6th century BC to 100 BC. Aiani Archaeological Museum
The Aiani Archaeological Museum is a museum in Aiani, West Macedonia, Greece. Although the museum was inaugurated in 1970, with a collection of antiquities of the ancient city but in 1983 a number of major additional finds meant that the museum had to be expanded considerably to house the new objects. The building of a new museum began in 1992 but was delayed by events such as an earthquake on 13 March 1995. After storage in various places including the town hall, the museum was eventually completed in 1997, but only two of the museums exhibition rooms opened in October 2002. Elimiotis
Elimiotis or Elimeia ( grc, Ἐλιμιώτις or Ἐλιμία or Ἐλίμεια) was a region of Upper Macedonia that was located along the Haliacmon river. The capital of Elimiotis was Aiani, located in the modern municipality of Kozani, Western Macedonia. It was bordered by Orestis (region), Orestis and Eordaea in the north, Pieria (regional unit), Pieria in the east, Perrhaebia/Thessaly in the south and Parauaea in the west, and was inhabited by the Greek tribe of Elimiotes ( grc, Ἐλιμιῶται). Kozani ( el, Κοζάνη, ) is a city in northern Greece, capital of Kozani (regional unit), Kozani regional unit and of Western Macedonia. Kozani ( el, Περιφερειακή Ενότητα Κοζάνης, Perifereiakí Enótita Kozánis) is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the region of Western Macedonia, in the geographic region of Macedonia.
