Agua Dulce ( ) is a city in Nueces County, in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located on the Texas Mexican Railway at the intersection of State Highway 44 and Farm to Market Road 70 in west-central Nueces County. The name, Spanish for "sweet water", refers to a nearby creek. A town in Texas, Sweetwater in Nolan County in West Texas, uses the English name. The town was established by the 1900s. The Battle of Agua Dulce Creek was a skirmish during the Texas Revolution between Mexican troops and rebellious colonists of the Mexican province of Texas, known as Texians. As part of the Goliad Campaign to retake the Texas Gulf Coast, Mexican troops ambushed a group of Texians on March 2, 1836. The skirmish began approximately south of San Patricio, in territory belonging to the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. When Mexico transitioned to a centralized government in 1835, supporters of federalism took up arms. Agua Dulce Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Agua Dulce, Texas (USA). The district serves students in west central Nueces, and east central Jim Wells counties. Within Nueces County it includes Agua Dulce and half of Rancho Banquete. History In 1910 the Agua Dulce Independent School District was founded; Sophinia Thompson was the first teacher. The school system was consolidated with that of Bentonville in 1932.
