Agnes Acibu
Agnes Acibu is a Ugandan politician and member of the parliament. She was elected in office as a woman Member to represent Nebbi district during the 2021 Uganda general elections. She is a member of the ruling National Resistance Movement party. In the eleventh parliament, she serves on the Committee on HIV/AIDS and Related Matters. National Resistance Movement
The National Resistance Movement ( sw, Harakati za Upinzani za Kitaifa; abbr. NRM) has been the ruling party in Uganda since 1986. History The National Resistance Movement (NRM) was founded as a liberation movement that waged a guerrilla war through its rebel wing National Resistance Army (NRA) that toppled the government in 1986. According to the National Resistance Movement, it restored political stability, security, law and order, constitutionalism and the rule of law to Uganda. Nebbi District
Nebbi District is a district in Northern Uganda. It is named after its main municipal, commercial and administrative centre, Nebbi, the location of the district headquarters. Location Nebbi District is bordered by Madi Okollo District to the north, Pakwach District to the east, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the south and Zombo District to the west. Nebbi, where the district headquarters are located approximately , by road, southeast of Arua, the largest town in the sub-region. 2021 Ugandan General Election
General elections were held in Uganda on 14 January 2021 to elect the President and the Parliament. The Electoral Commission announced Incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, who has ruled the country since 1986, as the winner with 58.64% of the votes although the US State Department qualified the electoral process as "fundamentally flawed" and Africa Elections Watch said they observed irregularities. The official voter turnout was 57% but is questioned since 409 polling stations have been announced to have 100% voter turnout. Electoral system The President of Uganda is elected using the two-round system, with candidates needing to receive at least 50% of the vote to be elected in the first round. Chapter 142 of the Presidential Elections Act of 2000 stipulates that presidential candidates must be a citizen of Uganda by birth and be qualified to be an MP. Parliament Of Uganda
The parliament of Uganda is the country's legislative body. Unicameral, the most significant of the Ugandan parliament's functions is to pass laws that will provide good governance in the country. The government ministers are bound to answer to the people's representatives on the floor of the house. Through the various parliamentary committees, parliament scrutinises government programmes, particularly as outlined in the ''State of the Nation'' address by the president.
