Agathe Sochat (born 21 May 1995) is a French rugby union player who plays for Stade Bordelais and the France women's national rugby union team. Career Sochat played for Stade Bordelais between 2013 and 2016 before joining Montpellier Hérault Rugby with whom she won the Élite 1 National Championships in 2017, 2018, and 2019 before rejoining Stade Bordelais in August 2021. In December 2021 she was named in World Rugby’s Women's Team of the Year. In 2022, She was named in France's team for the delayed 2021 Rugby World Cup in New Zealand. Stade Bordelais are a French rugby union club, based in Bordeaux. The club was established in 1889. Bordelais were a major force in the French championship during the 1900s. France Women's National Rugby Union Team
The France women's national rugby union team represents France in women's international rugby union. They played their first international in 1982 against the Netherlands. There are records of women's rugby being played in France as early as the mid-1890s, and in the 1920s a form of the game called "barette" was very popular, with national championships. Montpellier Hérault Rugby (; oc, Montpelhièr Erau Rugbi Club) is a French professional rugby union club, based in Montpellier, Occitanie and named after the Hérault river. Élite 1 (since 2018, and previously Top 8 from 2015 to 2018) is the top national league for women's rugby union clubs in France. It was founded from the 1971–1972 season under the aegis of the French Women's Rugby Association before being taken over by the French Women's Rugby Federation, it has been organized by the French Rugby Federation since 1989. The first season was won by the ASVEL Rugby women's side. The championship takes place in two phases: a so-called qualification phase, which is contested by all the teams, and a final phase which is played by direct elimination. From 2015 to 2018, the championship is referred to as the ''Top 8''. In 2018, the championship went from a single pool of 8 clubs to two pools of 16. The 8 best clubs qualified for the final phase. 2021 Rugby World Cup
The 2021 Rugby World Cup was the ninth staging of the women's Rugby World Cup, as organised by World Rugby. It was held from 8 October to 12 November 2022 in Auckland and Whangārei, New Zealand. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2021, but was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first women's Rugby World Cup to be hosted by New Zealand, and by a country in the Southern Hemisphere. New Zealand were also the defending champions. The tournament introduced changes such as replacement of classification play-offs in the knockout stage with quarter-finals, and a longer scheduling window with at least five days between matches.
