Affiliyated
''Affiliyated'' is a remix EP of Gayngs' 2010 debut studio album, ''Relayted'', by Doomtree. It premiered on ''Stereogum'' on March 4, 2011. The EP was produced by Cecil Otter, Paper Tiger, P.O.S, and Lazerbeak, among others. The producers were handed 10 random stems from ''Relayted'' to build a new song out of them. The EP's release show was held at First Avenue on March 6, 2011. Relayted
''Relayted'' is the first studio album by Minneapolis indie rock collective Gayngs. It was released via Jagjaguwar on May 11, 2010. Inspired by 10cc's " I'm Not in Love", every song on the album was recorded at 69 BPM. On May 14, 2010, the album release show was held at First Avenue. The album peaked at number 27 on ''Billboard''s Heatseekers Albums chart. As of 2011, it has sold 13,000 copies. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, ''Relayted'' received an average score of 78, based on 13 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Steven Hyden of ''The A.V. Club'' gave the album a grade of B+, calling it "a record fueled by the soft-rock solipsism of 10cc and loads of antidepressants." The collective has seven members: Dessa, Cecil Otter, P.O.S, Sims, Mike Mictlan, Paper Tiger, and Lazerbeak. The collective is known for incorporating a wide range of musical influences into their work with lyrical complexity and wordplay, and their annual "Doomtree Blowout" events held in Minneapolis venues to showcase their group performances and the Twin Cities music scene. First Avenue (nightclub)
First Avenue & 7th St Entry are two historic music venues housed in the same landmark building in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. The nightclub sits on the corner of First Avenue North and 7th Street North, from which the venues get their names. The two are colloquially distinguished by locals as The Mainroom and The Entry. The building was constructed in 1937 as the Minneapolis depot of the Greyhound Lines bus system and operated for 31 years. Allan Fingerhut purchased the facility in 1970 and converted it into a nightclub. During the 1980s, First Avenue flourished and became a landmark in the music and entertainment industry, playing a seminal role in establishing the '80s funk rock sub genre via the Minneapolis sound, and being the primary local venue for hometown star Prince. Michael Marquez (born July 8, 1982), better known by his stage name Mike Mictlan (), is a rapper from Los Angeles, California, who is currently based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a founding member of the indie hip hop collective Doomtree and the hip hop duo The Mercenaries. Mike Mictlan has released four solo albums and is currently signed to Doomtree Records. ''City Pages'' listed him as the 10th best Minnesota rapper in 2012. Andrew Sims (born October 19, 1982), better known mononymously as Sims, is an American rapper from Minneapolis. He has been a member of Doomtree and Shredders. Early life Sims was born Andrew Sims on October 19, 1982 in Minnesota. He grew up in Hopkins, a suburb of Minneapolis. His parents were former musicians. He first began creating music at an early age when his father bought him a Casio SK-1 keyboard. At a young age, he began writing lyrics, not necessarily rap. By the time he was 14, Sims was freestyle rapping and was also in various non hip hop bands as well. He attended Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where he met P.O.S and Cecil Otter, (and later other Doomtree members) who would sell beats to Sims.
