Adélard Laurendeau (December 1, 1883 – July 21, 1968) was a politician in Quebec, Canada and a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Quebec (MLA). Early life He was born on December 1, 1883, in Montreal. He became an industrial painter and a union activist. Political career He ran as a Labour candidate in the district of Maisonneuve in the 1919 provincial election and won. He finished second in the 1923 election and was defeated by Conservative candidate Jean-Marie Pellerin. Death He died on July 21, 1968. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, ''speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. Jérémie-Louis Décarie
Jérémie-Louis Décarie, (August 30, 1870 – November 5, 1927) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and judge in the province of Quebec. Born in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Quebec, the son of Daniel-Jérémie Décarie and Philomène Leduc, Décarie was educated at Sainte-Marie College and at the Université Laval in Montreal. He was called to the Bar of Quebec in 1896 and was created a King's Counsel in 1904. He read law, first in the office of E. Barnard and later with Mercier, Gouin & Lemieux. He later became a partner in the firm of Gouin, Lemieux & Decarie. In 1903 he formed a partnership with A. Decary under the firm name of Decarie & Decary. He was an unsuccessful Liberal candidate to the House of Commons of Canada for the riding of Jacques-Cartier in the 1900 federal election. Jean-Marie Pellerin
Jean-Marie Pellerin (November 14, 1878 – May 19, 1950) was a Canadian politician. Born in Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, Quebec, Pellerin was educated at Laval University in Quebec. He became a physician in 1904 and practiced in Montreal. He worked for the Department of Health and Child Welfare of the City of Montreal from June 1930 to November 1948. He was a member of the Maisonneuve city council from 1915 to 1918. There have been various groups in Canada that have nominated candidates under the label Labour Party or Independent Labour Party, or other variations from the 1870s until the 1960s. These were usually local or provincial groups using the Labour Party or Independent Labour Party name, backed by local labour councils made up of many union locals in a particular city, or individual trade unions. There was an attempt to create a national Canadian Labour Party in the late 1910s and in the 1920s, but these were only partly successful. The 1923 Quebec general election was held on February 5, 1923, to elect members of the 16th Legislative Assembly of Quebec, Canada. The incumbent Quebec Liberal Party, led by Louis-Alexandre Taschereau, was re-elected, defeating the Conservative Party of Quebec (historical), Quebec Conservative Party, led by Arthur Sauvé. The Conservative Party of Quebec (french: Parti conservateur du Québec) was a political party in Quebec, Canada, from 1867 until 1936, when it merged with members of the Action libérale nationale to form the Union Nationale.
