Advocates of Science and Technology for the People (Filipino: ''Samahan ng Nagtataguyod ng Agham at Teknolohiya Para sa Sambayanan'') or simply Agham is a non-governmental science advocacy organization based in the Philippines. Founded in 1999 by professors and students of the University of the Philippines Diliman, the group focuses its campaigns and community service in the areas of food security, public utilities, environment, national industrialization, science education, and the welfare of scientists in the country. The group is notable for its promotion of citizen science and is very vocal regarding many issues confronting the country. Agham regularly conducts fact finding missions of environmental disasters in cooperation with sectoral organizations, particularly peasants’ and workers’ groups. Leonardo Legaspi Co (December 29, 1953 in Manila – November 15, 2010 in Kananga, Leyte) was a Filipino botanist and plant taxonomist who was considered the "foremost authority in ethnobotany in the Philippines" during his lifetime. Education and early career Co's education in Botany did not follow the usual track. He did not finish his bachelor's degree until 2008 because he was always too busy doing research out in the field. Aloysius “Ochie” Ureta Baes (July 28, 1948 – December 21, 2006) was a Filipino chemist, environmentalist, pro-democracy activist, educator and musician. Late in his career, Baes was best known for his environmental activism, playing key roles in exposing the role of mining and logging companies in the 1991 Ormoc tragedy, the Marcopper mining disaster, the Rapu-rapu mining disaster, and in the campaign to hold the US military responsible for the toxic wastes left behind after the closure of Subic Naval Base and Clark Air Base.
