Adventure Alley
Adventure Alley is a themed section at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. It opened on April 5, 2012, replacing the former Fantasy Forest section of the park. Some of the most popular attractions in Adventure Alley are the Giant Wheel, and SkyScreamer, an Swing ride that opened with the area in 2012. History Before Adventure Alley, the area it now stands on was previously the west side of ''Fantasy Forest'' from the park's opening as Great Adventure in 1974 until 2011. However, for several years before Adventure Alley's addition, it was split up and rezoned, with Main Street added in-between. In 2012, the west side of Fantasy Forest was closed and transformed to Adventure Alley, with an original theme that included three new rides and attractions, as well as new restaurants and shops. Six Flags Great Adventure is an amusement park located in Jackson, New Jersey. Owned and operated by Six Flags, the park complex is situated between New York City and Philadelphia and includes a water park named Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, Hurricane Harbor. Jackson Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, the township population was 58,544. A portion of the township is located within the New Jersey Pine Barrens. A Ferris wheel (also called a Giant Wheel or an observation wheel) is an amusement ride consisting of a rotating upright wheel with multiple passenger-carrying components (commonly referred to as passenger cars, cabins, tubs, gondolas, capsules, or pods) attached to the rim in such a way that as the wheel turns, they are kept upright, usually by gravity. SkyScreamer
SkyScreamer is an amusement ride located at several Six Flags theme parks in North America. Designed by Funtime, an Austrian ride manufacturer, the attraction is one of their "Star Flyer" models. Since 2011, Six Flags has installed SkyScreamers in ten of their parks. Riders aboard SkyScreamer are carried aloft in two-person swing-like chairs attached to a rotating gondola mounted on a central tower. When the gondola reaches the top of the tower, riders are swung in a wide circle at speeds approaching , with expansive views of the adjacent countryside. Swing Ride
The swing ride or chair swing ride (sometimes called a swing carousel, wave swinger, yo-yo, waver swinger, Chair-O-Planes, Dodo or swinger) is an amusement ride that is a variation on the carousel in which the seats are suspended from the rotating top of the carousel. On some versions, particularly on the Wave Swingers, the rotating top of the carousel also tilts for additional variations of motion. History Swing rides were present at the earliest amusement parks. At Idora Park in Oakland, California, in 1908, the ride was called the Flying Swing, but appears to be the same principle. Funtime (manufacturer)
Funtime is an amusement ride manufacturer based in Dölsach, Austria. The company manufactures rides such as the Sling Shot, Star Flyer, and Vomatron. History In 1998, Funtime was established in the suburb of Bundall on the Gold Coast, Australia. Shortly after, the company opened a small amusement park in Surfers Paradise, a nearby Gold Coast suburb. At the time, the amusement park was known as Adrenalin Park and featured the company's Sling Shot and Vomatron rides. In 2010, Funtime threatened legal action against Dutch amusement ride manufacturer, Mondial, after that company unveiled the WindSeeker which bears similarities to Funtime's patented Star Flyer ride. Bumper cars or dodgems are the generic names for a type of flat amusement ride consisting of multiple small electrically powered cars which draw power from the floor and/or ceiling, and which are turned on and off remotely by an operator. Bumper cars were not intended to be bumped, hence the original name "Dodgem." They are also known as bumping cars, dodging cars and dashing cars. The first patent for bumper cars was filed in 1921. Design The cars are commonly powered by one of three methods. The oldest and most common method, the Over Head System (OHS), uses a conductive floor and ceiling with opposing power polarities. Air Jumbo (formerly Jumbo) is a Telecombat-style ride located in the Adventure Alley themed section of Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. The attraction opened to the public on May 23, 2012, along with three other attractions including SkyScreamer. History Six Flags Great Escape (1960–2004) Air Jumbo originally operated as ''Jumbo'' at Great Escape amusement park in Queensbury, New York. It opened in 1960 until 2004 and was relocated to Six Flags Great Adventure where it reopened as ''Royal Elephants''. The Scrambler, Twist (in the United Kingdom, UK), Twister, Cha Cha (in Australia), Sizzler, or Merry Mixer, is an amusement ride in which suspended riders spinning in cars experience Centrifugal force, centrifugal force, while spinning along two separate axes. Riders are seated in small carriages clustered together and connected by beams at the top to a central point. The clustered vehicles are spun in one direction, while the ride as a whole spins in the opposite direction. There are a number of variations of the design.
