Adolphe Klingelhoefer
Adolphe Klingelhoefer (2 May 1880 - 19 December 1956) was a French track and field athlete who competed at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, he also played rugby union. Biography Klingelhoefer was born and raised in Paris, France, he was the son of a Brazilian diplomat who was the vice-consul at the Brazilian embassy in France. Between 1899-1903 he won six French national titles, 4 in the 110 metre hurdles and two in the 400 metre hurdles, and set two national records in the 110 metre hurdles in 1903 and 1904. Klingelhoefer competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics, he entered three events, with little success, in the 60 metres he finished outside the top three in his heat so did not qualify for the next round, in the 200 metres he finished third in his heat which still wasn't good enough to qualify for the final, and finally in the 110 metres hurdles he pulled up lame in his heat so did not finish the race or qualify for the final. Athletics At The 1900 Summer Olympics – Men's 110 Metres Hurdles
The men's 110 metres hurdles was the first of the track and field events on the athletics programme at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. It was held on July 14, 1900. Nine athletes from three nations competed in the shortest of the hurdling events. The event was won by Alvin Kraenzlein of the United States, the second of five consecutive victories for the nation in the first five Olympic Games. It was also the first of four consecutive podium sweeps for the Americans in the event. Background This was the second appearance of the event, which is one of 12 athletics events to have been held at every Summer Olympics. None of the hurdlers from 1896 returned. Alvin Kraenzlein was the dominant hurdler of the time and an overwhelming favorite. India made its first appearance in the event. The Brazilian Olympic Committee or BOC ( pt, Comitê Olímpico do Brasil – COB) is the highest authority in Brazilian sport and the governing body of Brazilian Olympic sport. It was officially founded on June 8, 1914, but World War I caused its official activities to begin only in 1935. The men's 200 metres was a sprinting event on the athletics programme at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. It was held on July 22, 1900, well after most of the rest of the athletics events. The 1900 Games were the first time the 200 metres was contested. The races were held on a track of 500 metres in circumference. Eight athletes from seven nations competed. The event was won by Walter Tewksbury of the United States. Norman Pritchard of India took silver while Australian Stan Rowley earned bronze. Background This was the first appearance of the event, which was not held at the first Olympics in 1896 but has been on the program ever since. American Walter Tewksbury had taken silver in the shorter sprint events in 1900 (the 60 metres and 100 metres), but the winners of those events did not compete in the 200 metres; he had also won the 400 metres hurdles.
