Admiralteysky Constituency
The Admiralteysky constituency (No.206) was a Russian legislative constituency in the Saint Petersburg in 1995–2007. It covered parts of central Saint Petersburg, including Admiralteysky District, Vasileostrovsky District and parts of Kirovsky District. Currently most of the former Admiralteysky constituency is part of Central constituency, while Kirovsky District portion was put into Southern constituency. The Movement in Support of the Army, Defense Industry and Military Science (russian: Движение в поддержку армии, оборонной промышленности и военной науки), or simply Movement in Support of the Army (russian: Движение в поддержку армии, Dvizheniye v podderzhku armii, DPA) is a Russian radical nationalist political movement established in 1997. The group was founded by Lev Rokhlin, who was killed in July 1998, and then run by Viktor Ilyukhin and Albert Makashov. Gavriil Kharitonovich Popov (russian: Гаврии́л Харито́нович Попо́в; born 31 October 1936) is a Russian politician and economist. He served as the mayor of Moscow from 1991 until he resigned in 1992. Biography Born to a Greek family in Moscow, Popov graduated Moscow Lomonosov University in political economy. He joined the Soviet Communist Party in 1959 and served as a secretary of the Komsomol committee of his university. Popov remained at the faculty of economics as a graduate student, then docent, and in 1978 became dean of the faculty. Yegor Gaidar, who would become Prime Minister of Russia, was one of his students. During Perestroika Popov became heavily involved in politics.
