Adi (mythology)
Āḍi ( sa, आडि) is an Asura in Hindu mythology who appears in the Matsya Purāṇa. He was the son of the demon Andhaka, who was killed by the god Shiva. Story After discovering that Pārvatī was practicing tapasya in the forest, he recalled his father's death at the hands of Shiva. He decided to avenge his father by killing Shiva, despite knowing that he was no match for the deity. At the time of his father's death, Āḍi did tapasya to please Brahmā who appeared before him asking what he desired. Āḍi replied that he sought immortality, to which Brahmā made clear that all living beings must eventually die. Āḍi clarified his request, stating that he would only die when he had changed form. Brahmā took advantage of this ambiguity and granted him the power of transformation. Āḍi was prepared to face Shiva. Armed with this newfound power from Brahmā, he entered Shiva's private quarters in the guise of a snake, evading the watch of Shiva's attendant Vīrabha ...

Jain
Jainism ( ), also known as Jain Dharma, is an Indian religion. Jainism traces its spiritual ideas and history through the succession of twenty-four tirthankaras (supreme preachers of ''Dharma''), with the first in the current time cycle being Rishabhadeva, whom the tradition holds to have lived millions of years ago, the twenty-third ''tirthankara'' Parshvanatha, whom historians date to the 9th century BCE, and the twenty-fourth ''tirthankara'' Mahavira, around 600 BCE. Jainism is considered to be an eternal ''dharma'' with the ''tirthankaras'' guiding every time cycle of the cosmology. The three main pillars of Jainism are ''ahiṃsā'' (non-violence), ''anekāntavāda'' (non-absolutism), and '' aparigraha'' (asceticism). Jain monks, after positioning themselves in the sublime state of soul consciousness, take five main vows: ''ahiṃsā'' (non-violence), '' satya'' (truth), '' asteya'' (not stealing), ''brahmacharya'' (chastity), and '' aparigraha'' (non-possessiveness). Th ...

Rishabhanatha
Rishabhanatha, also ( sa, ऋषभदेव), Rishabhadeva, or Ikshvaku is the first (Supreme preacher) of Jainism and establisher of Ikshvaku dynasty. He was the first of twenty-four teachers in the present half-cycle of time in Jain cosmology, and called a "ford maker" because his teachings helped one across the sea of interminable rebirths and deaths. The legends depict him as having lived millions of years ago. He was the spiritual successor of Sampratti Bhagwan, the last Tirthankar of previous time cycle. He is also known as Ādinātha which translates into "First (''Adi'') Lord (''nātha'')", as well as Adishvara (first Jina), Yugadideva (first deva of the yuga), Prathamarajeshwara (first God-king), Ikshvaku and Nabheya (son of Nabhi). Along with Mahavira, Parshvanath, Neminath, and Shantinath; Rishabhanath is one of the five Tirthankaras that attract the most devotional worship among the Jains. According to traditional accounts, he was born to king Nabhi and q ...

Authorised Deposit-taking Institution
Financial institutions in Australia are only permitted to accept deposits from the public if they are authorised deposit-taking institutions (ADIs). The ADI’s authority is granted by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) under the ''Banking Act 1959'' (Cth). The term was adopted to formalise the right of non-bank financial institutions — such as building societies, credit unions and friendly societies — to accept such deposits. All ADIs are subject to the same prudential standards as banks but for a corporation to use word 'bank', 'building society' and 'credit union' in its name, it must meet certain requirements. The concept of an ADI replaced that of "bank" following the recommendations of the Wallis Report in March 1997. The statutory requirements of an ADI are elucidated in case ''Commissioners of the State Savings Bank of Victoria v Permewan, Wright & Co Ltd'' (1914). The case was seminal in characterising essential elements of a bank as being the col ...

Media Market
A media market, broadcast market, media region, designated market area (DMA), television market area, or simply market is a region where the population can receive the same (or similar) television and radio station offerings, and may also include other types of media such as newspapers and internet content. They can coincide or overlap with one or more metropolitan areas, though rural regions with few significant population centers can also be designated as markets. Conversely, very large metropolitan areas can sometimes be subdivided into multiple segments. Market regions may overlap, meaning that people residing on the edge of one media market may be able to receive content from other nearby markets. They are widely used in audience measurements, which are compiled in the United States by Nielsen Media Research. Nielsen measures both television and radio audiences since its acquisition of Arbitron, which was completed in September 2013. Markets are identified by the largest ...

Water Injection (engine)
In internal combustion engines, water injection, also known as anti-detonant injection (ADI), can spray water into the incoming air or fuel-air mixture, or directly into the combustion chamber to cool certain parts of the induction system where "hot points" could produce premature ignition. In jet engines it increases engine thrust at low speeds and at takeoff. Water injection was used historically to increase the power output of military aviation engines for short durations, such as dogfights or takeoff. However it has also been used in motor sports and notably in drag racing. In Otto cycle engines, the cooling effects of water injection also enables greater compression ratios by reducing engine knocking (detonation). Alternatively, this reduction in engine knocking in Otto cycle engines means that some applications gain significant performance when water injection is used in conjunction with a supercharger, turbocharger, or modifications such as aggressive ignition timing. Dep ...

Alternating Direction Implicit Method
In numerical linear algebra, the alternating-direction implicit (ADI) method is an iterative method used to solve Sylvester matrix equations. It is a popular method for solving the large matrix equations that arise in systems theory and control, and can be formulated to construct solutions in a memory-efficient, factored form. It is also used to numerically solve parabolic and elliptic partial differential equations, and is a classic method used for modeling heat conduction and solving the diffusion equation in two or more dimensions.. It is an example of an operator splitting method. ADI for matrix equations The method The ADI method is a two step iteration process that alternately updates the column and row spaces of an approximate solution to AX - XB = C. One ADI iteration consists of the following steps:1. Solve for X^, where \left( A - \beta_ I\right) X^ = X^\left( B - \beta_ I \right) + C. 2. Solve for X^, where X^\left( B - \alpha_ I \right) = \left( A - \alpha_ I\r ...

Africa Development Indicators
The World Bank Africa Development Indicators is a compilation of data, assembled by the World Bank, representing over 1,400 indicators of development in Sub-Saharan Africa. Methodology and scope The information is updated annually from a variety of sources with datasets being available from 1960 onwards. Topics covered by the data include national accounts, balance of payments, trade, demography, health, education, transport, energy and the environment and the Millennium Development Goals. The World Bank aims at giving a broad picture of development across Africa, including 53 countries in five different country-groups. While most of the data is provided by the World Bank, a lot of it comes from different sources which is then put together under the World Bank Africa Development Indicators. With the contribution of organisation such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, the International Road Federation and the International Telec ...
