Anthony Addington
Anthony Addington (1713 – 22 March 1790) was an English physician. Life Born in Twyford, Addington was educated at Winchester College. He went up to Trinity College, Oxford, where he took the degree of M.A. on 13 May 1740 and of M.D. on 24 January 1744. He was subsequently admitted a fellow of the College of Physicians, and went into practice in London, but was compelled by bad health to move to the country. His career gained considerable public attention when he appeared as an expert for the prosecution of Mary Blandy for the poisoning of her father Francis Blandy in 1752. He then retired to Reading in Berkshire, where he derived a large income from his profession, until his death in 1790. He devoted his attention particularly to the treatment of insanity, and was one of the physicians called in to see George III when he first showed symptoms of mental aberration. Crandell Addington (born June 2, 1938, in Graham, Texas) is an entrepreneur and poker player who is best known as one of the founders of the World Series of Poker, and is a member of the Poker Hall of Fame. Poker Known as "Dandy" because he was always well-dressed, Addington was a regular player in the Texas poker circuit in the 1960s. Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth
Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth, (30 May 175715 February 1844) was an English Tory statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1804. Addington is best known for obtaining the Treaty of Amiens in 1802, an unfavourable peace with Napoleonic France which marked the end of the Second Coalition during the French Revolutionary Wars. When that treaty broke down he resumed the war, but he was without allies and conducted relatively weak defensive hostilities, ahead of what would become the War of the Third Coalition. He was forced from office in favour of William Pitt the Younger, who had preceded Addington as Prime Minister. Addington is also known for his reactionary crackdown on advocates of democratic reforms during a ten-year spell as Home Secretary from 1812 to 1822. Henry Unwin Addington
Henry Unwin Addington (24 March 1790 – 6 March 1870) was a British diplomat and civil servant. Background Born at Blounts Court, he was the second son of John Hiley Addington, brother of Henry Addington, 1st Viscount Sidmouth, and his wife Mary, daughter of Henry Unwin. He was educated at Winchester School and entered the Foreign Office in 1807. Career Addington was attached to the diplomatic mission to Sicily under William Amherst, 1st Earl Amherst in 1809 and took part in the negotiations between Spain and his colonies in 1812. He was transferred to Berlin in April 1813 and to Stockholm in September. In the next year he was appointed Secretary of Legation to Switzerland, an office he held until 1818. He executed this position again in Copenhagen in 1821, however became chargé d'affaires in Washington already a year later. Isaac Addington (January 22, 1645 – March 19, 1719) was a longtime functionary of various colonial governments of Massachusetts, including a brief period as the Chief Justice of the Superior Court of Judicature, the highest court in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. Stephen Addington D.D. (9 June 1729, in Northampton, England – 6 February 1796, in Minories) was a scholarly English dissenting clergyman and teacher. Life He was born at Northampton, June 9, 1729, and was educated under Dr. Philip Doddridge, whose manner in the pulpit he closely followed for many years. After being admitted to preach, he removed in 1750, to Spaldwick in Huntingdonshire; where, in 1752, he married Miss Reymes of Norwich, a lady who died in 1811, at an advanced age. Steven J. Addington (born July 4, 1964) is an American NASCAR crew chief who works for RSS Racing as a crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
