Adam Black (Australian Politician)
Adam Black (8 August 1839 – 26 December 1902) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Early life and business career Black was born in Mordington, Berwickshire, Scotland to parents George Black and his wife Marjory née Hogg. George and Marjory Black had six children: John, Agnes, Janet, Adam, George and David. In 1851 the Black family were living at Prenderguest, Ayton, Scottish Borders, Ayton in Berwickshire. Black arrived in Gympie, Queensland, Gympie, Queensland in 1868 from New Zealand where he gained farming and mining experience. Mining career Black was one of the four pioneers of quartz mining in Gympie. They were not only successful in discovering quartz but in getting the gold to the surface in the New Zealand Reef in Gympie. Electoral District Of Logan
Logan is an electoral district in southern Queensland, Australia. Logan encompasses urban and semi-rural environments on the southern outskirts of the Brisbane metropolitan area. Major locations within the electoral district include Browns Plains, Crestmead, Park Ridge and North Maclean. History The electoral district of Logan was established under the 1872 Electoral Districts Act which excised the southern part of the Electoral district of East Moreton (the Gold Coast area). Successive redistributions shifted the boundaries northwards towards Brisbane. It was abolished in the 1949 redistribution, being mostly absorbed into the Electoral district of Coorparoo and the Electoral district of Yeronga. In the 1959 redistribution, the Logan electoral district was re-created in the Redland Shire, largely replacing the Electoral district of Darlington. Ayton, Scottish Borders
Ayton is a small village located in the historic county of Berwickshire, today part of the Scottish Borders region. It is on the Eye Water, from which it is said to take its name: Ayton means 'Eye-town'. It contains the former ancient tollbooth or town hall with a clock tower, the Hemelvaart Bier Cafe (an entertainment venue as well as a bar) and a village store. It is located near the East Coast Main Line railway line, which runs between London, King's Cross and Edinburgh, Waverley station, the closest station being Reston station. The A1 (Great North Road) originally ran through the heart of the village, but during the 1980s a bypass was built to the East of the village. Cancer
Cancer is a group of diseases involving abnormal cell growth with the potential to invade or spread to other parts of the body. These contrast with benign tumors, which do not spread. Possible signs and symptoms include a lump, abnormal bleeding, prolonged cough, unexplained weight loss, and a change in bowel movements. While these symptoms may indicate cancer, they can also have other causes. Over 100 types of cancers affect humans. Tobacco use is the cause of about 22% of cancer deaths. Another 10% are due to obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity or excessive drinking of alcohol. Other factors include certain infections, exposure to ionizing radiation, and environmental pollutants.
