Adajya
''Adajya'' () is a 1996 Indian Assamese language drama film directed by Santwana Bardoloi based on the novel '' Dontal Haatir Uiye Khowa Haoda'' by Indira Goswami. The film was screened at several international film festivals. Plot The film is set in 1940s Assam. Three widows struggle to lead dignified lives despite the extreme restrictions mandated by law and custom. The arrival of a young American scholar, a poisonous snakebite, and the theft of ancestral jewelry combine to bring the situation of the young and beautiful widow Giribala to a painful crisis. The 44th National Film Awards, presented by Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in the year 1996. Santwana Bardoloi
Santwana Bordoloi is a director, actress, radio host and paediatrician from Assam, India. Both her directorial ventures, ''Adajya'' (1996) and '' Maj Rati Keteki'' (2017), set two decades apart, have won a National Award for the Best Feature Film in Assamese. Santwana Bordoloi started her career as an actor. She featured in popular TV series "Tejaal Ghora". This Series was directed by one of the renowned directors Kulada Kumar Bhattacharyya. Thomas Beach Alter (22 June 1950 – 29 September 2017) was an Indian actor. He was best known for his works in Hindi cinema, and Indian theatre. In 2008, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India. Early life Born in Mussoorie in present-day Uttarakhand, Alter was the son of American Presbyterian missionaries of English, Scottish and Swiss German ancestry and lived for years in Mumbai and the Himalayan hill station of Landour. Indira Goswami
Indira Goswami (14 November 1942 – 29 November 2011), known by her pen name Mamoni Raisom Goswami and popularly as Mamoni Baideo, was an Indian writer, poet, professor, scholar and editor. She was the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award (1983), the Jnanpith Award (2000) and Principal Prince Claus Laureate (2008). A celebrated writer of contemporary Indian literature, many of her works have been translated into English from her native Assamese which include ''The Moth Eaten Howdah of the Tusker'', '' Pages Stained With Blood'' and ''The Man from Chinnamasta''.
