Acid Dreams
''Acid Dreams'' is an unofficial compilation album of American acid rock, garage rock and psychedelic rock songs recorded in the 1960s. It was originally produced in 1979 by a German record shop owner, inspired by Elektra Records' ''Nuggets'' series History In 1979, a Berlin record shop owner issued ''Acid Dreams'' and pressed only 77 copies. The album was primarily available in his store, though some copies were shipped to friends or label owners. The album was heavily bootlegged, and in 1988, a compilation titled ''Acid Dreams Testament'' collected 13 of the original's 18 tracks, and added 15 more songs. ''Acid Dreams Epitaph'' followed in 1996 on Head Records, with 31 tracks. Past & Present Records reissued ''Acid Dreams Epitaph'' in February 2009 with some changes in the tracks. The Outcasts (Texas Band)
The Outcasts are an American garage rock band from San Antonio, Texas that released a total of five singles between 1965 and 1967. Their best-known songs are "I'm in Pittsburgh (And it's Raining)", and "1523 Blair". Their recordings have been reissued on a number of compilation albums. According to the ''Ugly Things'' compilation album notes, they are the most recognized band of this name that were active in the mid-1960s, including another popular band from Manhasset, New York (see below for others). Early history ''The Outcasts'' were formed in San Antonio in late 1963 by Buddy Carson, Rickey Wright and Denny Turner. In late 1964, Jim Carsten and then Jim Ryan joined the band. Zakary Thaks
The Zakary Thaks were an American garage rock band from Corpus Christi, Texas, United States, which formed in the mid-1960s. History The band developed out of The Riptides, a teen surf group which included Chris Gerniottis (vocals), Pete Stinson (lead guitar), Wayne Harrison (bass), Shelby Jordan (rhythm guitar), and Rex Gregory (drums). The group then became The Marauders, adding lead guitarist John Lopez and David Fore on drums with Gerniottis at vocals, Gregory at bass, and Stinson on rhythm guitar. In 1966, they replaced Fore with drummer, Stan Moore, and became The Zakary Thaks – the name being a mutated version of one seen in a magazine. Harrison and Fore went on to play with the Liberty Bell and the Bubble Puppy respectively. The Balloon Farm
The Balloon Farm, an American musical act from New Jersey, took its name from a New York City nightclub. It is best known for its sole hit song, "A Question of Temperature," which made the ''Billboard'' charts in February 1968, peaking in the top 40. Two members of the band, Don Henny and Ed Schnug first played together in a band called Adam, which made one single for the Mala label entitled "Eve" in 1966. Adam's gimmick was that all four members of the group adopted the first name "Adam". They were probably not the first to use this idea, but they were far from the last; a similar ruse would be used by other bands, including The Donnas. After Adam disbanded, Henny and Schnug were joined by Mike Appel and Jay Saks and adopted the name "The Balloon Farm". The Vejtables
The Vejtables were an American rock band from Millbrae, California, United States. They recorded for the Autumn label and found limited success with such songs as " I Still Love You" and a cover version of Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing on My Mind". Lead singer Jan Errico also played drums for the group's recordings, making her one of the relatively few female drummers at the time. The Vejtables began their career playing bars and nightclubs along El Camino Real on the San Francisco Peninsula, even though they were still in high school at the time. Acid Head
"Acid Head" is a song recorded by the American garage rock band the Velvet Illusions. It first appeared as the A-side to the group's debut single, which was released on Tell International Records in mid-1966. The writing of the composition is credited to keyboardist Steve Weed and the group's manager George Radford, however, it is reported that "Acid Head" actually originated from an outside composer. At the time of its first release, the tune suffered from limited radio-play time. Over time, "Acid Head" has since become recognized as a garage rock classic and is widely accessible on multiple compilation albums. The Unrelated Segments were an American garage rock band from Taylor, Michigan, that were active between 1966 and 1969. The group was a popular musical act in Michigan, achieving regional acclaim for their song, "Story of My Life". The group, with influences spanning from R&B standards, the British Invasion, to early psychedelia, released five singles in their brief recording career.
