The (National Dance Academy) was established in 1940 in Italy and aims to promote the art and technique of dance. The National Dance Academy is the only university-level institute in Italy dedicated exclusively to the training of dancers, teachers, and choreographers, awarding academy diplomas equivalent to laurea ( bachelor's degree) and laurea magistrale ( master's degree). History Founded in 1940 in Rome by Jia Ruskaja, who transformed her own milanese school into a public institution, the organization's name was initially ''Regia Scuola di Danza'' (''Royal Dance School'') and was annexed to the National Academy of Dramatic Arts, before becoming autonomous in 1948 under the current denomination of ''Accademia Nazionale di Danza'' (''National Dance Academy''). Accademia Nazionale d'Arte Drammatica Silvio D'Amico (translation: Silvio d'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts) is a national drama school in Rome, Italy. Founded in 1936 by the theatrical theorist, critic, and writer Silvio D'Amico, the academy is the only state school for the training of actors and directors. Funded jointly by the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Academy grants academic degrees equivalent to Bachelor of Arts as well as master's degrees. He had an international career as a performer, ballet master, and choreographer, staging works for many ballet companies and for several Hollywood film studios. Alexander Sakharoff (, also spelled Sakharov and Sacharoff, 13 May 1886 – 25 September 1963) was a Russian Empire dancer, teacher, and choreographer who immigrated to France. Life Sakharoff was born Alexander Zuckermann to a Jewish family in Mariupol, Russian Empire on 13 May 1886. Alexander was one of the most innovative soloist dancers of the first decades of the 20th century. He trained as a painter at the Academie de Beaux Arts and the Académie Julian in Paris. His androgynous appearance led to him being painted by painters including Jawlensky and Marianne von Werefkin in 1909. He married the German dancer Clotilde von der Planitz (1893–1974), and they had a successful career together.
