Acazulco Otomi
San Jeronimo Acazulco Otomi, or Ocoyoacac Otomí, is a moribund and seriously endangered dialect of the Otomi language spoken by a hundred or so people in the town of San Jerónimo Acazulco in Ocoyoacac, Mexico State. Only people born before c. 1950 are fluent, and all of them speak Spanish on a daily basis. Acazulco Otomi has been classified as Eastern Otomi by Lastra (2006). It is more conservative, and closer to Eastern Highland Otomi, than its neighboring Tilapa Otomi. There are revitalization efforts underway. Acazulco Otomi has ejective consonants as well as aspirated stops which correspond to fricatives in other varieties of Otomi, and is similar to reconstructions of the Proto-Otomi language. Ocoyoacac is a municipality in the State of Mexico in Mexico. The municipal seat is the town of Ocoyoacac. The municipality covers an area of 134.71 km². It is one of the 17 municipalities that border Mexico City. It borders the Distrito Federal's western borough of Cuajimalpa. Oto-Manguean
The Oto-Manguean or Otomanguean languages are a large family comprising several subfamilies of indigenous languages of the Americas. All of the Oto-Manguean languages that are now spoken are indigenous to Mexico, but the Manguean branch of the family, which is now extinct, was spoken as far south as Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Oto-Manguean is widely viewed as a proven language family. However, this status has been recently challenged. The highest number of speakers of Oto-Manguean languages today are found in the state of Oaxaca where the two largest branches, the Zapotecan and Mixtecan languages, are spoken by almost 1.5 million people combined. San Jerónimo Acazulco
San Jerónimo Acazulco is a town and community in the municipality of Ocoyoacac, Mexico State, Mexico. Once an agricultural community, the economy of the ejido is now primarily based on tourist commerce. It is within La Marquesa National Park. The town is an indigenous community of the Otomi people, and most of the elderly still speak the Acazulco Otomi dialect of the Otomi language. In 2010 census there are 4,827 inhabitants. Eastern Highland Otomi
Sierra Otomi Highland Otomi (''Otomi de la Sierra'') is a dialect cluster of the Otomi language spoken in Mexico by ca. 70,000 people in the highlands of Eastern Hidalgo, Western Veracruz and Northern Puebla. The speakers themselves call the language ''Yųhų'' (Eastern Highland) or ''Ñųhų'' (Texcatepec and Tenango). Lastra 2001 classifies it as an Eastern Otomi language together with Ixtenco Otomi, Tilapa Otomi, and Acazulco Otomi. The three varieties of Sierra Otomi—Eastern Highland, Texcatepec, and Tenango—are above 70% lexically similar; the Eastern Highland dialects are above 80%, and will be considered here. Ejective Consonant
In phonetics, ejective consonants are usually voiceless consonants that are pronounced with a glottalic egressive airstream. In the phonology of a particular language, ejectives may contrast with aspirated, voiced and tenuis consonants.
