Academy Of Fine Arts Zagreb
The Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb ( hr, Akademija likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu or ALU) is a Croatian art school based in Zagreb. It is one of the three art academies affiliated with the University of Zagreb, along with the Academy of Dramatic Art (ADU) and the Academy of Music (MUZA). The Academy was established in June 1907 as the ''Royal College for Arts and Crafts'' ( hr, Kraljevsko zemaljsko više obrazovalište za umjetnost i umjetni obrt) and initially had three departments, for sculpting, painting and art education. Academy's first professors were Robert Frangeš-Mihanović, Rudolf Valdec, Robert Auer, Oton Iveković, Bela Čikoš Sesija, Menci Klement Crnčić and Branko Šenoa. Marina Abramović
Marina Abramović ( sr-Cyrl, Марина Абрамовић, ; born November 30, 1946) is a Serbian conceptual and performance artist. Her work explores body art, endurance art, feminist art, the relationship between the performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind. Being active for over four decades, Abramović refers to herself as the "grandmother of performance art". She pioneered a new notion of identity by bringing in the participation of observers, focusing on "confronting pain, blood, and physical limits of the body". Maksimilijan Vanka
Maksimilijan "Maxo" Vanka (May 11, 1889 – February 2, 1963) was a Croatian-American artist. He is best known for the series of murals he completed in 1937 and 1941 at St. Nicholas Croatian Church in Millvale, Pennsylvania. Biography Early life Vanka was born in Zagreb in 1889 as the illegitimate son of two Austro-Hungarian noble families. To avoid a scandal, he was given to a peasant woman in the village of Kupljenovo who raised him for the first few years of his life. However, at the age of eight, his maternal grandfather learned of his existence and had him sent away to a castle where he had access to an upper-class education. Miroslav Šutej
Miroslav Šutej (29 April 1936 – 13 May 2005) was a Croatian avant-garde painter and graphic artist. Šutej was born in Duga Resa in 1936. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb and was an associate in Krsto Hegedušić's master's workshop. Since 1970, Šutej was a professor at the Academy. Šutej became a full member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts in 1997. Ivan Sabolić
Ivan Sabolić (24 August 1921 – 25 June 1986) was a Yugoslavian sculptor, professor and dean of the Academy of Fine Arts Zagreb, head master of the workshop in 1975. Sabolić was born in Peteranec. Self-taught, he made his first works in clay, including portraits of his father, mother and grandfather, which make up his oldest surviving works. Sabolić was a member of the postwar generation of sculptors who from the mid-20th century sought to escape from the strict framework of socialist realism and commissioned art, and remain faithful to the Croatian tradition. Ivan Ladislav Galeta (9 May 1947 – 7 January 2014) was a Croatian multimedia artist, cinematographer and film director. Biography Galeta lived in Kraj Gornji, where he performed his Endart projects, and worked at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He graduated from Zagreb's School of Applied Arts and Design (Department of Applied Graphics) (1967), at the teacher training college in Zagreb (1969), and at the studies of pedagogy sciences at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb (1981). Ivan Meštrović
Ivan Meštrović (; 15 August 1883 – 16 January 1962) was a Croatian sculptor, architect, and writer. He was the most prominent modern Croatian sculptor and a leading artistic personality in contemporary Zagreb. He studied at Pavle Bilinić's Stone Workshop in Split and at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he was formed under the influence of the Secession. He traveled throughout Europe and studied the works of ancient and Renaissance masters, especially Michelangelo, and French sculptors Auguste Rodin, Antoine Bourdelle and Aristide Maillol. He was the initiator of the national-romantic group Medulić (he advocated the creation of art of national features inspired by the heroic folk songs). Frano Kršinić
Frano Kršinić (24 July 1897 – 1 January 1982) was a Croatian sculptor active in former Yugoslavia. Along with Ivan Meštrović and Antun Augustinčić, he is considered one of the three most important Croatian sculptors of the 20th century.
