Abu Talib Yahya
Abu Talib Yahya (951 - 1033) was an imam of the Zaydiyyah sect in 1020–1033. Like his elder brother and predecessor al-Mu'ayyad Ahmad, Abu Talib Yahya was a prominent man of learning and a descendant of Imam Hasan bin Ali. He succeeded al-Mu'ayyad Ahmad in the imamate of the Zaidi territories in Gilan and Deylaman in Persia, formally as "caliph". At this time there were two major Zaidi territories, namely the area south of the Caspian Sea and the highlands of Yemen. For many years after the death of imam al-Mahdi al-Husayn in 1013, no local imam was appointed in the Yemeni territory. Imam
Imam (; ar, إمام '; plural: ') is an Islamic leadership position. For Sunni Muslims, Imam is most commonly used as the title of a worship leader of a mosque. In this context, imams may lead Islamic worship services, lead prayers, serve as community leaders, and provide religious guidance. Thus for Sunnis, anyone can study the basic Islamic sciences and become an Imam. For most Shia Muslims, the Imams are absolute infallible leaders of the Islamic community after the Prophet. Shias consider the term to be only applicable to the members and descendents of the '' Ahl al-Bayt'', the family of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. In Twelver Shiasm there are 14 infallibles, 12 of which are Imams, the final being Imam Mahdi who will return at the end of times. Imams Of Yemen
The Imams of Yemen, later also titled the Kings of Yemen, were religiously consecrated leaders belonging to the Zaidiyyah branch of Shia Islam. They established a blend of religious and temporal-political rule in parts of Yemen from 897. Their imamate endured under varying circumstances until the end of the North Yemen Civil War in 1970, following the republican revolution in 1962. Zaidiyyah theology differed from Isma'ilism or Twelver Shi’ism by stressing the presence of an active and visible imam as leader. The imam was expected to be knowledgeable in religious scholarship, and to prove himself a worthy headman of the community, even in battle if this was necessary. The Ḥasanids ( ar, بنو حسن, Banū Ḥasan or , ) are the descendants of Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, brother of Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī and grandson of the Islamic prophet Muhammad. Zaydi Imams Of Yemen
Zaydism (''h'') is a unique branch of Shia Islam that emerged in the eighth century following Zayd ibn Ali‘s unsuccessful rebellion against the Umayyad Caliphate. In contrast to other Shia Muslims of Twelver Shi'ism and Isma'ilism, Zaydis, also called Fivers, consider Zayd to be the fifth imam and successor to Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin, instead of his half-brother Muhammad al-Baqir. Origin The Zaydi madhhab emerged in reverence of Zayd's failed uprising against the Umayyad Caliph, Hisham (ruling 724–743 AD), which set a precedent for revolution against corrupt rulers. Abu Hashim Al-Hasan
Abu Hashim al-Hasan (died 1040) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen who ruled part of the Yemeni highlands between 1031 and 1040. Abu Hashim al-Hasan was a fifth-generation descendant of al-Qasim al-Rassi (d. 860), one of the founders of the theological traditions of the Zaydi branch of Shi'a Islam. In 1031, the year after the violent death of the former imam al-Mu’id li-Din Illah, Abu Hashim claimed the imamate. He was able to seize San'a. One of the local grandees, Ibn Abi Hashid, fled, while another one, Nunsur bin Abi'l-Futuh, submitted. Abu Hashim's authority in San'a lasted until 1037, when he was expelled by the tribesmen of Hamdan. Al-Mu'id Li-Din Allah
Al-Muid li-Din Illah (المعيد لدين الله, died 1030) was an imam of the Zaidi state in Yemen who reigned in the period 1027–1030. After 1002, the Zaidi imamate in highland Yemen was contested between various claimants. A Caspian Zaidi leader in Persia, Abu Talib Yahya, is sometimes formally counted as imam in the period 1020–1033 in Zaydiyyah historiography. Meanwhile, the brother of the old imam al-Mahdi al-Husayn, Ja'far, ruled the Zaidi centre Sa'dah as emir for periods. In 1027 a new pretender of obscure origins appeared and claimed the imamate. He proclaimed himself under the title al-Mu'id li-Din Illah (he who brings people back to God). He actually managed to establish his authority in the important city San'a.
