Abnak Records was a record label based in Dallas, Texas, owned by Fort Worth insurance man John Howard Abdnor Sr., active from 1963 to 1971, begun mainly as an outlet for his son John H. Abdnor Jr., primarily as Jon & Robin. The most success for the label came from the group The Five Americans. Subsidiary labels were Startime Records, Jetstar Records, and Britannia Records. Their final album was distributed by Uni Records and was by Michael Rabon & Chocktaw, released in 1971, which featured members of The Five Americans. Jon & Robin
Jon & Robin were an American pop music duo from the 1960s, composed of Jon Abdnor Junior and Javonne "Robin" Braga. The group recorded for Abdnor's father's label, Abnak Records. Wayne Carson Thompson (famous for writing The Box Tops' hit "The Letter") wrote several of the band's tunes, including their one national US hit single, 1967's "Do it Again a Little Bit Slower" (US #18; CAN #9) "Dr. Jon (The Medicine Man)", which was a regional hit in Texas and the American South and #10 in Canada, and "You Got Style" which reached #70 in Canada. They were often backed by Bobby Patterson and the Five Americans, other Abnak artists, on their recordings. In 1969, Jon Abdnor released a solo album after the duo had parted ways. Five Americans
Five Americans was a 1960s American rock band, most famous for their song, "Western Union", which reached number five in the U.S. ''Billboard'' chart and was their only single to chart in the Top 20. In Canada, they had three in the Top 20. Career The Mutineers formed in Durant, Oklahoma ( Southeastern State College) in 1962. The band members crossed paths at the university, and began performing a repertoire of Bo Diddley and Duane Eddy standards within the campus. In 1963, the band recorded their debut single, "Jackin' Around", in Dallas, Texas, an instrumental which received extensive airplay in their college. The British Invasion influenced The Mutineers to include Beatles numbers to their repertoire, a change in outfitting, and a slight emphasis to vocals. Uni Records (short for the label's legal name Universal City Records and rendered as UNI) was a record label owned by MCA Inc. The brand, which long featured a distinctive UNi logo, was established in 1966 in music, 1966 by MCA executive Ned Tanen and developed by music industry veteran Russ Regan. Notable artists on Uni included Strawberry Alarm Clock, the Foundations, Hugh Masekela, Brian Hyland, Desmond Dekker, Bill Cosby, Elton John, Neil Diamond, Dave and Ansil Collins, Fever Tree (band), Fever Tree, Olivia Newton-John, Betty Everett, and the Factory (Lowell George, Dallas Taylor, et al.). Sundazed Music is an American independent record label based in Coxsackie, New York. It specializes in obscure and rare recordings from the 1950s to the 1970s. In 2000, Sundazed had a staff of 15 and two mixing studios, including a vintage audio equipment collection. History Label founders Bob Irwin and his wife Mary started the label in 1989. Irwin's skill at restoring old vinyl records for the (then new) CD format, attracted the attention of major labels, who increasingly solicited him to help them re-issue material from their back catalogs. He helped Sony Music release their archival Legacy Records label. Later, his restoration work included early material by the likes of Bob Dylan, Nancy Sinatra, and the Byrds.
