Abigail Strate
Abigail Strate (born 22 February 2001) is a Canadian ski jumper, born in Calgary, Alberta. Strate began ski jumping at six years old, and entered her first international competition when she was ten, in Utah. In her participation at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Strate won Canada's first Bronze medal in Ski jumping, in the mixed team event. Strate also notably ranked 23rd in the Women's Normal Hill Individual event, with a total of 161.9 points. In her free time, Strate enjoys spending time outside by mountain biking, beekeeping, gardening, and caring for her chickens. Career Strate competed in four events at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021, finishing 27th on the normal hill, 28th on the large hill, 11th on the women's team normal hill and finally 10th in the mixed team normal hill. A ski is a narrow strip of semi-rigid material worn underfoot to glide over snow. Substantially longer than wide and characteristically employed in pairs, skis are attached to ski boots with ski bindings, with either a free, lockable, or partially secured heel. For climbing slopes, ski skins (originally made of seal fur, but now made of synthetic materials) can be attached at the base of the ski. Matthew Soukup (born 31 August 1997) is a Canadian Ski jumping, ski jumper. Soukup started skiing at the age of three, and later on picked up the sport of ski jumping. His surname is pronounced as "soh-koop" (shortly). Career Soukup has competed at two World Championships. Soukup trains in Slovenia, as the jumps at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary were shut down. 2022 Winter Olympic Games In January 2022, Soukup was named to Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, Canada's 2022 Olympic team. Alexandria Loutitt
Alexandria Loutitt (born 7 January 2004) is a Canadian ski jumper. She is the Canada’s first ever world champion in ski jumping and the first Canadian woman to win a World Cup ski jumping event. Loutitt trains in Slovenia, as the ski jumping facility at the Canada Olympic Park in Calgary was shut down. Career Loutitt became captivated with ski jumping while watching the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. She attended the National Sports School in Calgary, Alberta, which allowed her to spend several months a year in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany for training as a teenager before joining the Canadian national team.
